    dillon 650xl primer seating problem

    hello every one
I have a Dillon 650 xl press with Dillon dies I have been reloading for about 3 years with a single stage press and upgraded to the Dillon
my problem is the primers are not sitting flat on the brass case some times
I have reloaded about 500 and 40 or so are sticking up a little some more than others I am reloading 45acp I did not have this problem with 9mm or 40cal
also some of the brass cases have some burr on the rim of the case which don't
fit in the case guage which is also a Dillon
I am using used brass that I ordered online
    please help

First thing is the obvious, make sure you are fully seating the primer when you push forward on the handle. Mixed range brass will have different primer pockets, some tighter than others, and you might just have to push harder. Are all the ones with the high primers the same brand of brass?

Is this the first time you've switched over to large pistol primer? if so, I would double check that you have everything in the primer assembly lined up and tightened down properly. In other words, take it apart and put it back together again, carefully . I switch back and forth between large and small pistol on my 550b, which is a different priming assembly, but occasionally if I don't torque everything down right I will get misaligned primers.

If you are dealing with crimped/military brass, you will probably be having more problems than just primers that aren't fully seated. But if in doubt, get a cheap primer pocket reamer, punch out one of the high primers, ream the brass and see if a new primer seats better.

If no luck here, go check out the Brian Enos forum, they have a very active Dillon subforum that will probably have your answer.

As stated make sure that you do not have cases with a crimp on them. Also check your shell plate holder. It sounds like it may be too loose or you are not pushing the handle all the way up every time. You should make sure that you go to a dead stop on every pull and push.

You should also check that your primers seater is pushing straight through the disk. You can loose the two screw that hold the primer assembly and turn it just a tad, I've adjusted that in the past and it helps, especially with crimped primers when they really need to line up correctly.

Definitely sounds like crimped cases. What type of cases?

That looks like it's lined up pretty well just not seating all the way. Sure the primer assembly isn't unscrewing from the head? The reaction bar under it is in place?
