Agreed on the spare parts kit. Like after about 15,000 rounds that white plastic shoulder washer on the powder measure safety rod broke. Seems like it's a semi disposable part - one call to Dillon and they sent me a couple more for free - but there's one in the kit. Or at some point I lost a locator button, dropped it somehow. There's a couple of spares in the kit. I haven't lost or destroyed any Dillon springs yet but I can see needed those eventually too.

I thought I ordered the spare parts, I guess I did not, just ordered and a new digital scale.

Speaking of which, when people break those usually it's because the shell plate is binding. Could be dirty, could be it's tightened down too much. It's a little bit of a black art to get everything tight enough that the cases will be where they're supposed to but not so tight that the shell plate can't rotate smoothly. Then you tighten the set screw and it seems like every three thousand rounds it works itself into a different position anyway. Which is fine, because it's reasonable to pull it and get rid of any crud about then.

I have had my 650 since 93 or 94. I cannot imagine using anything else. I do use a little graphite below the shell holder. I started doing this years ago as it seems to help with it moving smoother. To date the only parts that I have broke are springs. It is the primer arm spring. It was easier to get a pack of them at the hardware store than to bother calling Dillion. You will be very happy.

The Dillon XL650 is amazing, if you decide to go with it, you will not regret it.

If I want to get started with a dillon setup, is there a site that sort of handholds you through the process of getting it up and running? I'd like to get it for loading 44 mag and .223, maybe 30.06 if it's possible, but I'm kind of daunted by the sheer setup size and all the parts needed to get started. Any helpful pointers or guides out there?

A lot of useful information here:

For what you are thinking of loading he will recommend the 550B instead of 650. Changing calibers is much faster than the 650. He also has suggestions for the configurations etc..

I used youtube videos as a reference for setup, there are multitudes of them.

yeah for me was like going from a rattle trap car to a new merceds, solid and smoooooth.
also so fast can load 100-200 rounds in 15 minutes then go to range no need to have big stockpile.

Thank you kindly, definitely gives me a target for my budget. Damn those caliber conversion kits are pretty steep though. Going to have to save my pennies.
