When a die is brand new it needs to be seasoned. And the choice of lube is also important. Imperial sizing wax is fool proof. To season the die you lube and size a new case. That way the die doesn't have to move that much brass but you get the lube into the pores. But you should not cram the case into the die all at once. You should run it in partially and withdraw. Then relube and run it in a little deeper. Then a little deeper. You'll feel the die grab the case hard but you'll only have a little metal on metal contact at a time. After you do a couple cases this way the die will be ready.

I never heard of seasoning a die. Good advice.I'm not having a glass of wine, I'm having SIX. It's called a tasting and it's classy.

Send the die back to redding before you destroy it just trying to prove yourself right.I just fought and lost against a stuck case. I'm reloading new 458 SOCOM with Redding dies. I lubed up (Lee lube) a new case (Starline) for sizing and the Redding die grabbed it and torn off the base of the case. I called Brownell for help and they said to remove the decapper. Nope, it's stuck for good. I put some penetrating oil on the remaining bit of brass case and left it alone overnight.
I tried again this morning and completely destroyed the brass. I just ordered the Redding Stuck Case kit but I know it's not going to work. The decapper is in the way and the drill is just going to destroy the tip. The Redding die is toast.
Dump that crappy lee lube and get some imperial sizing wax.Last edited by ar15barrels; 08-28-2015, 12:14 PM.Randall Rausch

Deparavity and the 9mm Parabellum
"I have been depriving / sizing dirty cases for a while".
I fear Stilly's been depraved with cases for even longer, and depriving them of proper lubrication to boot...Other than the massive popularity of the 9mm Parabellum round, the metric system never really caught on here...Comment

Sounds just a little pornographic....a little deeper, then a little deeper....hmmmm.Comment

NSFW! LOL!
Use plenty of lube, but not too much. Put some on your fingers and rub it on.
