I forgot where I got my recipe from but it was a 1:1:1:1 with Dexron ATF + kerosene + Mineral Spirits + Acetone.
Mix in the mineral spirits with the acetone then add in the kerosene and then the atf goes in last I think. That way seemed to provide a better suspension then the other way. It mixed up easier.
And NO cheaping out and getting the "GREEN" mineral spirits eco friendly substitute. That makes it milky pink IIRC. Yuk.7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...

This is slightly off topic, but I had some new Winchester 45C brass and they didn't get stuck but we're HARD to resize. I used that Lee lube and things were so much easier.
I have been depriving / sizing dirty cases for a while - but I do stop and clean the die from time to time with WD40, then rinse it out till clean and then apply a small amount of the same Lee lube. And after cleaning, you need to inspect the flash hole - there probably will be some tumbler media.
Yes, most folks clean cases first.

Sometimes a stuck case just falls within the purview of Murphy's Law. He loves reloaders. Especially with small cases like 9mm para. The spec for the extraction flange on a 9mm case is only .035" -.010". So a case can have a piddly little .025" flange and still pass muster. Then add in a batch of softer than usual brass in the mix. And it becomes quite possible that the damn flange just ripped off. When another case wouldn't have.
I personally, never run dirty cases through my dies. I also, even with carbide dies. Lightly lube every 5th case or so. Especially with nickle cases. I started doing so a long time ago after pulling the carbide ring out of a sizing die. Even though RCBS fixed it for free it was still a PIA sending it back.

There aint no way in hell I am gonna lube up 10k 9mm cases. You are CRAZIER then the CA legislature if you think I am gonna do THAT.
Do I really need a stuart? Nah... We all know what that was...
Pacrat I had to pound the case out of the die with a philips screw driver. Granted it made no metal farting noises going up, but coming down it was a ***** until it broke off...7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...

Hence my "sometimes" comment.Pacrat I had to pound the case out of the die with a philips screw driver. Granted it made no metal farting noises going up, but coming down it was a ***** until it broke off...
Sometimes it just happens, sometimes it is cause by the operator overlooking something.Sometimes a stuck case just falls within the purview of Murphy's Law.
Once the extraction groove is a screwed pooch. There is no alternative to pounding it out, or using a stuck case remover.
Just sharing what "I" do, to prevent stuck cases. With clean cases, and carbide dies. My definition of "lightly lube" every 5th case or so. Is to have a lube pad handy and and stick my finger on it, and a quick swipe with the finger around the mouth of a case. IMO, not a biggy, takes all of 2 seconds.
I "especially" do this with nickled cases. The nickle is softer than the carbide but has a tendency to "burnish onto' the carbide ring. Once it does. The nickle fragments on the ring scratch the crap out of any further cases run through the die. Until you polish the die to remove it.

Tumble them in corn or walnut.
It leaves a nice even dust on them that acts as a dry lube.
Completely CLEAN cases will stick in a die much easier than cases with some dry lube on them.
You have to be really careful to watch for signs of galling.
The first time a die gets brass stuck to it, it will stay there and continue to grab bras from every subsequent case you run into the die.
The brass eventually builds up and becomes big enough to stick a case in the die.
This only seems to occur with brand new brass or with brass that is perfectly clean.
Any sort of lube (wet or dry) helps to keep it from happening.Randall Rausch

Can I revive this from the past?
I just fought and lost against a stuck case. I'm reloading new 458 SOCOM with Redding dies. I lubed up (Lee lube) a new case (Starline) for sizing and the Redding die grabbed it and torn off the base of the case. I called Brownell for help and they said to remove the decapper. Nope, it's stuck for good. I put some penetrating oil on the remaining bit of brass case and left it alone overnight.
I tried again this morning and completely destroyed the brass. I just ordered the Redding Stuck Case kit but I know it's not going to work. The decapper is in the way and the drill is just going to destroy the tip. The Redding die is toast.
I'm pissed. I only got 20 rounds loaded.I'm not having a glass of wine, I'm having SIX. It's called a tasting and it's classy.
