    H110 in a box

I recently received a bunch of old reloading stuff, components, and ammo that belonged to my wifes grandfather in the stuff was a 8 pound box of h110 powder with about 3 pounds in it. It looks fine and I'm going to use it. My question is when did Hodgdon sell bulk powder in a cardboard box?

Did it look factory labeled from Hodgdon or did it loko like it could have been anotehr powder that was put in a bag or in that box for storage but possibly came from a different container?

      Pics?

Please do not get too close with the camera flash. I suspect that it could be easier then before to set things off with a flash.

If the box isn't an original factory marked one with a label, I would sprinkle it on the grass and plants. There is no way to know what the contents actually are and it isn't worth the risk if it's some other powder. Just my 2 cents.

No it was definitely original, dimensions were about 10x8x14. I should of took pics of the box before repackaging into more suitable containers.

Upon further research it looks like that powder was most likely military puled powder. About 35 years ago they would pull military powder and package it in cardboard boxes.

Wow that was along time ago. I'd run into those occasionally when I was buying powder by the 12lb. keg back in the day (Wish I still had some of those black metal kegs) They'd come in thick black plastic bags inside those boxes.

                    BINGO

But it started a lot longer ago than 35 yrs. Hodgdon got his start in the powder business by buying huge lots of Gov. surplus powders and reselling it to reloaders right after WW11.

Example H-4895 was actually just Dupont IMR 4895 repackaged for resale. "BL" listed Hodgdon powders were from British surplus suppliers.

Since Hodgdon bought IMR from Dupont and has manufacturing and license rights to all Winchester powders. It is likely the biggest supplier in the world.

I still have a couple of pounds of IMR aka H-4064 that date from the 60s. Universal Arms in Paramount used to sell it bulk for $1.50 a pound. Bring your own container.

We used to buy red dot powder in a paper lunch sack for 3 bucks a pound from Ross gun shop in Van Nuys he poured it out of a 25 pound keg while you waited .

Bowers Wholesale - there is a blast from the past.

Never seen powder packed like that.

That's a cool looking box. You should hold onto it and use it as a decoration in your reloading area.

Bower wholesale... I remember the guard that would stand in front before the riots happened.
