When I get low on 9mm brass, I just buy Winchester white box ammo.

It seems that Freedom (or its sister companies) are actually making this brass.
Edit: I spent a few minutes digging through my bucket of 9mm brass and pulled out a bunch with the ridge inside. 99% of it is IMT, and a few are Ammoload and FM. I assume it's all coming from the same place.Last edited by potguts; 04-19-2015, 3:42 PM.Comment

So the next question is... does FM treat this brass the same as all other types when they are making reman ammo?
If the smaller area is potentially causing higher pressures, I'm sure they can easily account for it when they are loading a batch of new ammo using this brass. But when they are making reloads, this brass will inevitably be mixed in with all the normal stuff, maybe leading to inconsistent loads?
I have shot tons of their new ammo, very little of their reman. And again, in all fairness, this one separated case is the only issue I've had. But it does appear to be more than just a random occurance.Last edited by potguts; 04-19-2015, 3:59 PM.Comment

IMO, that "ridge" at the case web is either a design flaw. Or an intentional feature to assure more sales. If you reload a cartridge case, the manufacturer assumes no liability for your actions.
Since the thinner forward portion flexes outward grabbing the chamber tighter. That is the exact point that a case stretches the most when fired. Internal tapering at that point allows the case to stretch. That abrupt ridge is not conducive to stretching. Leaving the case no choice but to seperate.
Thanks for the heads up. I will never buy any of that crap.

The whole design of this brass is stupid. The step seems to cause a stress riser, there are many posts about the cases separating. The inside construction seem to decrease the case volume, this opens up a whole set of issues for the reloader. You would have to work up a load specifically for this brass, because of the reduced case volume your going to get less velocity at the same given pressure as a normal case would give you. All this type of brass goes straight into the recycle bag. 9mm brass is just to easy to get to reload crap brass. If you want change you have to put in your 2 cents, you can't just sit on the sidelines and whine.Comment

Not related to this thread, but Freedom Munition caused catastrophic failure in one of our customer's Bushmaster ACR rifle just few days ago. There is no post here so I suppose the guy may not be Calguns member.NRA certified RSO, Pistol/Rifle/Personal Protection Inside The Home instructor, Certified SIG/Glock pistol armorer.Comment

Their remanufactured ammo is very nice. I'm not thrilled with this style of brass they use for the "new" ammo but I've shot thousands of the "reman" without incident. Most recent purchase was from their Black Friday sales and I've gone through 1-2 thousand of that already, and reloaded a lot of the brass. (I reload 9mm for matches but use FM for practice ammo if I can get a good enough price and it was 18 cents/round delivered versus reloading it for 12 - plus I get a brass supply.)Comment
