    Freedom Munition Brass: Case/Head Seperation

Ok, this probably is old news. If you reload 9mm, beware of brass from Freedom Munition. So far this issue only comes up with my reload when I shoot it out of my 9mm AR (blow-back action), I have not encounter it out of my pistols (M&P and SIG for the most part), but I am not taking any chances. Head-stamp I have issue with is IMT, but I have seen the same with heatstamp AMMOLOAD and most recently, FM. Some picture to share:

    Interesting case (no pun intended!!)

I reload their 45 acp brass with "Freedom" headstamp without issue. Appears to be good brass like I'd typically see from Winchester or Federal

I've seen similar happen with big name factory new ammo. But, it happens more frequently with factory reloads or any reloads. One incident doesn't justify telling everyone that the sky is falling. Now, if it happens repeatedly in different guns with different people reloading the brass, then, there would be a definite problem.

NO. I think this is that euro crap that has an extra thick ledge inside and thus makes for less case capacity.

I thought we saw crap like this several months ago, but someone was asking about it instead. They thought it was weird that it had that ridge/extra padding inside the case and we all made fun of it then. Now we will all make fun of it again and know to beware of that stuff...

Can we see a photo of the inside of a GOOD case with the same headstamp? And no, the correct answer is not "there are no good cases with that headstamp..." :\

            ^^ This.

It is the brass case with ledge in it. My guess is the ledge caused structure weakness, and when brass is expanded more when shooting out of blow-back action gun instead of lock breech gun, or perhaps just my RRA 9mm upper has a loose chamber compare to my pistols, case expand more on the thinner part, which caused it to break apart from the thicker ledge part. Most of my 9mm case failure while reloading are just crack vertically, nothing like this before. These are the brass from Freedom Munition factory new ammo, not their reloaded ammo. Below is a picture for comparison. Brass on the right is Freedom Munition brass, one on the left is your regular Federal brass. And no, it's not just "one incident". On that day I fired 320 round, and I experienced 3 failures. Keep in mind Freedom Munition brass only consist of very small portion of those 320 rounds, so failure rate is actually quite high. I end up having to sort through about 4000 brass that I had already polished just to weed out all the Freedom Munition brass I picked up by mistake.

Interesting. All my new loaded 124gr 9mm Freedom brass are marked "Speer". Haven't bought the reloaded stuff from them. Now I gotta go weed thru/look at my brass.

Same thing happened to me, using their 124gr new (not reman), out of a Rock Island 1911. I never even thought to look at the headstamp... I think I still have some from that order though, I'll have to check.

I've shot thousands of rounds of their 124gr, this is the only problem I've ever had.

I'm not a reloader yet, been lurking here, learning. But I started saving my brass a while ago, and probably the majority of it is freedom... argh.

edit: I checked a couple boxes I still have left from the same case, and they are all IMT headstamp

Yup. I screen out and toss all Freedom Munitions' Ammoload and IMT brass. It's a huge pain in the *** for a brass whore like me, since it's fairly popular ammo.

It is fine for the europeans because all they have are bolt action guns because their govt is way more oppressive than ours. Freedom munitions has good stuff, but I wonder if people have told them about this stuff. I am gonna open a dialogue with them because this also happened to my friend when we were talking about this stuff last year.

They take in brass from all over the place, I wonder if some damn europeans gave them this tainted taint brass...

I have made contact with them after I rung a barrel in a MG. After a few weeks I was finally contacted and they offered to replace my Barrel. I opted to have my entire order refunded. If you contact it will help to have the lot numbers of the problematic ammo. My order was all new ammo also.

I was thinking more like tell them to inspect their brass and TOSS this garbage when they see it, or better yet, sell it all off to smart reloader...

Why not buy brass that lasts? When I want quality handloads for handguns I buy this brand in 500 or 1k lots. This stuff sells for $74.00 + shipping for 500 cases https://www.starlinebrass.com/brass-...M-Luger-Brass/. Of course if you are stuck shooting factory loads for the cases, then this won't do. I use Starline brass in .44 Remington Magnum, .45 Colt, .480 Ruger, and .45-70, my widow will probably have to sell it off when I croak - its that good.

That ridge inside the case is a stress riser, those cases will always fail just above the junction.
