    Hornady 45 Cal FTX Seating?

Wanting to reload the Hornady 45 Cal 200gr FTX for 45 Long Colt http://www.hornady.com/store/45-Cal-.452-200-gr-FTX/. I know it requires a special seating die so as to not smash the flex tip. My google flu is failing me. Ive found it for 45-70 but I fear the die may be too long for the 45 Long Colt case. Any help will be appreciated. Its for the Girlfriend, she wants to try cowboy action long range with her 20'' Rossi.

You want the Hornady FTX 45 Cal .452 200grn seating stem. Should come up on a google search, I'm on the tablet or I would put up a link.

I bet the barnes seating step would work just fine.

        Bench looks fine to me

First thing I noticed was she was using the classic Lee loader. Pretty cool.

I use a Saw horse as a bench, no worries about messiness. As far as info i have nothing to add, as i do not reload for that.

Do I need a separate seating stem for the 225gr FTX?

              FTX for Cowboy action shooting?

Cowboys don't use jacketed bullets with soft plastic tips. Cowboys use lead bullets made by the campfire.

I can not see her elbows but that looks like a cool scale she is using... Wow. It looks like it does the job and THEN some and I bet it performs pretty cool...

IF you are using LEE dies, for ANY FTX I think you need to either A: Send them the die and a bullet and tell them to correct the seating stem, or B: drill it out yourself.

If you do not do that you will have lopsided or smashed top bullets.

The tips will be smashed when they are in the tube magazine in the gun.

                        Cool Pic of your sweetheart.

Slight squinty eyed look of deep concentration. Yet a tiny bit of smile at the corner of her mouth, showing joy of her labor.

Last I looked LEE was not taking any more "Custom" orders. Until they deal with a big backlog. May have changed. Whether they will make a "custom" seater for a Lee Loader, or not, remains to be seen.

I have made my own custom fit, top punches for Lubri-Sizer, and seating stems using "Marine_Tex" a high strenght epoxy that has 18,000 pound tensile strenght.

I would just buy some RN lead bullets for her to shoot "Cowboy" with. Those are basically just plinker loads anyway. Why waste high digit premium hunting bullets on a steel plate at 25 yds?

JM2c............hope she enjoys the heck out of whatever she shoots.

Long Range Pistol / Cowboy Rifle Silhouette Match goes as far as 200yds so need something in the 45 Long Colt to help.

A custom die seems risky but Ill get the Hornady seating die with the FTX stem. To bad now I have to share my press with her.

RCBS 460 S&W dies come with the barnes seating stem which should work too, if you find those on closeout or sale.

You can buy a new press while you are at it. an RCBS RS press should be cheap and easy to find
