700X is a good powder to have in case of an emergency as it is dirt cheap and you don't use that much of it. It's fast enough to propel just about any pistol cartridge up to 45 ACP. It is a flake powder, so it actually burns nicely. It's no good for using in something like a Dillon progressive machine for metering and flaking.

Yup. Also cast Bullet loads and gallery loads for my rifles.

I love it. Very versatile. Meters fine for me

Let me tell you something about 800-X powder...

I had an 8lb bottle that I let go for a mildly huge loss (not really a loss though, I got cash and other stuff in trade) because it metered like CRAP in the Hornady LNL dropper using the rifle inserts for .45 acp.

After recording drops from 2.6-7.2 while trying to meter 5.0gr out I decided to go to an adult shop and buy a vibrator. Now get this, THOSE GIRLS in that store claimed that they did NOT KNOW what the strongest vibrator they had was, SO I settled for an evolution Hollow Point mini vibrator.

I ziptied that to my rifle measuring tube turned it on setting 2 and got loads that I was satisfied with fior plinking. I think I got loads from 4.6-5.2 so that worked for the 230gr rounds that I was making.

Then in another thread this past year I found that the bottle of 700-X that I had ACTUALLY meters VERY WELL if you get the pistol rotor and insert.

I have loaded a thousand or two of the .45 acp with the 700-X powder and with NO vibrator I aim for 5.0 gr and I get 4.86-5.18 with the majority of the drops being between 4.98-5.06. Sometimes I can get 5.0 right on the dot for about 4 drops in a row.

SO, it does not meter the best, but since it meters second or third, then it works and I enjoy shooting it. I am to the point of not worrying about it now. I will check my drops for about 30 drops after resetting the drop tube and if it looks good to go then I go with it. I just cranked out about 2500 more... Did 900 in one 3.5-4.5 hour night. That is how solid it is for me now.

So if you have a uniflow or lnl dropper with the pistol tubes, you are in good shape, but if you have any other types, I can not speak for those.

I did the same, bought 8lbs because it was the only thing available at the time. I could not get it to meter for the life of me. So now I have found another use for it. Makes starting a camp fire a lot funner.

Why not sell it to another Calgunner

Why not sell it to another Calgunner that can find a use for it?

                  vibrator on powder measure

What a great idea for getting the wives involved in reloading...
Other than the massive popularity of the 9mm Parabellum round, the metric system never really caught on here...

I was the guy who traded him. 800x is a BADAZZ 12 gauge powder.
Here's great 12 gauge ounce-and-an-eighth hot load I learned from a buddy. Use at your own risk- it developes a high amount of pressure.

-Remington STS or Gold Nitro hull
                        -WAA12 wad
                        -27.2 grains of 800X powder
                        -Winchester 209 primer
-1 1/8 ounce of lead shot
This load will generally patern well and runs about 1375 feet per second I smacked the crap out some chucker with this load last week. Even at 30 yards they were dead before they hit the ground.

I aint regretting that trade. I got some good powder out of it and made another calgunner happy.

Too bad your recipe above does not have any inclusions for Win AA hulls. I got a lot of those. I will start reloading for shotgun maybe next year after I am settled again.
