    Shipping large amounts ammo

I'm moving from the Left coast to the East coast (slightly less left)

I probably have close to 1000 lbs of ammunition. I will be driving a small quantity of it, but I need to figure out how to get the rest there. A one way truck rental costs more than the ammo. I can ship, I think, 66 lbs at a time through a parcel carrier.

Any suggestions? Selling it here is a backup plan, so I'm looking for other solutions.

If it's factory ammo, selling is an option. A smaller trailer that you can tow might be an option.

As a Reloader, this is why I have lots of components but not a lot of loaded ammo.

Look into the freight (truck) carriers.
Its probably more cost effective to sell it.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Has to go surface common carrier or ups or fedex. Never usps. Try uship.com I have had good luck shipping with them.

You can ship it all at once through UPS or FedEx Ground as long as none of the boxes exceed 66 pounds. So for 1000 pounds you would need to break it up into at least 16 packages. Might be easier/cheaper to sell it here and buy more when you arrive at your new location.

1000lbs of lets just say .223 is nearly 36 cases. Even if its Wolf, thats about $9k.

Renting a truck is much cheaper than that. IMHO.

I hope you're not going through Massachusetts or any other non gun friendly state.

I would look into buying a small trailer that you can tow. When you get there decide if it's worth keeping, if not, sell it. Might turn out to be cheaper than renting.

Problem with the trailer is you gotta sleep at least 4 times on a cross country trip; which means the trailer is in the motel parking lot all night. Which means the local criminals will check it out and clean it out When I did the trailer cross country, I camped out next to it, no motels. You just can't have a tarp over the box.....

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Keep it up.

My weight estimate might be high. I will put it on a scale this weekend. A trailer is a good idea. I'm seriously considering buying a used or new SUV if I plan to buy one anyway.

I will check out shipping rates on a pallet. Are there any ground carriers other than UPS and FedEx? Time is not of the essence.

U-haul enclosed/locked trailer? I must have had double vision when I read 100,000 lbs this morning. A 4x8 trailer is rated for 1,600 lbs. that's what I had when I moved from Utah to store my stuff in CA. Had lots of reloading components with estimated weight of 1K lbs.

Not a problem if you're staying in Marriott courtyard and such.
