Well, I guess that sim gene simply doesn't work for everyone.
Consider that ArmA series is the most successful military sim out there, and being one of few PC games still sold millions, I wouldn't call it garbage.

It sold millions because of DayZ, and failing to admit that is just being dishonest. Even DayZ was plagued with issues(and a dev that went on random banning sprees). Hell, Arma 2 had been out for 3 years already without breaking 100k units sold before DayZ was released.

The number was meant for Arma3 alone. DayZ stand alone sold 2 millions. I pretty sure that you can verify this claim on Steam.
Since you can't play DayZ on Arma3 without also owning Arma2+OA expansion, so your argument doesn't really make sense.

I would say the DayZ series popularized ArmA much just prior to the release of the third game (fourth if you counted Operation Flashpoint).
I think it's just like other mil sims, you either love it or hate it. I remember back then people also criticized games like SWAT4, Falcon 4.0, and SteelBeast were "too challenging and not fun to play".

People who bought SWAT4, Falcon 4.0, SteelBeast, etc. didn't buy those games to play a downloadable zombie game mode.

Yes, the game series has sold millions, but not because of it's simulation of anything. Even the video you posted of VBS3 appears to be a UI nightmare that *gasp* no one bought by the millions unlike the other games being discussed in this thread. The arma series is barely in the same genre as BF and CoD.

I tried the beta for Hardline. It really seemed more like an expansion than a full fledged game. I didn't find it very interesting. But I think I'm burned out on the BF series at this point anyway.

As I explained before, to run DayZ on ArmA3, you need both Arma3 and Arma2 with Operation Arrowhead expansion, then go through a fairly complicated conversion process.
Why would a new player pay nearly $50 more to get two games that he/she doesn't really play, when the same player can just buy a DayZ standalone off the shelf without need to converting bunch of files?

Maybe you don't know, but VBS3 has a price tag of $1500 per unit, could only be purchased with background check. (so was VBS2 when first released) I would rather argue that most video game players are unwilling to pay such price to "play" a simulator.
(I would love to try VBS, but there is no way I could convince myself with that price)

Because DayZ standalone was a buggy mess that barely worked at launch? You're also forgetting Battle Royale.

Look, I don't know why you're so stuck on defending arma in a thread about BF. I don't care. My point is, hardly anyone plays arma for the sake of playing it as arma. You seem to like arma, fine, but this isn't an arma thread.

Oh, I watched the video. Yeah, he wasn't claiming it was perfect, but I still can't believe that the game isn't total garbage based on a review sponsored by the publisher. It's pretty much the opposite of "legit".

They just act like dick heads to cover their lack of people/social skills and play it as just an "act" or their sense of humor when they just have no people skills and anger issues and hate and have a strong opinion on EVERYTHING.

Actually have a kid like them at my work, Navy, huge gamer. Just had a mental break down last week. Made sure he ranted all about it to me and how he cant have a gun anymore because he's a "lunatic psychopath with no life".....
