This thread caused me to break out some of the old stuff, and start playing them again. Spent 3 hours yesterday with mostly a BAR in my hands (animatedly speaking).

BF1942, plus road to Rome and secrets weapons of the Luftwaffe.

And some other lesser known ones. I still like the classic WWII games the best. Of course I may have some bias in that direction.

Play Arma-3

I own it. Wish I didn't. Its basically a sandbox with no polished content. Its a pain to figure out what to do. The control suck and require either a photographic memory or a freaking printout of the control mapping. The helicopter flight dynamics suck so much they had to re do them twice already and modders still found holds in it. Basically garbage game is garbage, while having some perfume sprayed on it and a brand name like Coco Chanel.

Honestly, if you think ArmA control is too difficult, you might want to stay away from any sim type game, like flight simulation or Falcon series...

A sim does not necessarily make for a good "game", the distinction being entertainment for most people. I don't think the US Army and NATO give a rats *** whether or not players are entertained.

Those are the games I played. BF3 was really really good and I enjoyed playing it. Bad Company 2 was alright. I played the Hardline demo but it seemed WAYYYYYY fast paced and I had many of the same issues you had. That said the heist game was fun.

I don't think I'll be buying it.

+1 on BC2. BC2's hardcore mode team rush is probably my #1 all time best FPS. Almost perfect balance in terms of "realism" vs arcade, but perhaps too good in a sense. Play it enough, and you could tell in two minutes whether your team was any good or just sniper bait.

Definitely one of the best BF's I've played on release. No CTDs, no obvious glitches, no rubber-banding, very little lag. My only real complaint at the moment is that the armored vehicles are borderline overpowered at the moment, but that'll change once more people start to unlike breaching charges and whatnot.

AFAIK BF:BC2 died along with gamespy.

It was already pretty thin towards the end, with only a couple servers that could reliably attract and field non-sniper-bait teammates.

Well, I guess that sim gene simply doesn't work for everyone.
Consider that ArmA series is the most successful military sim out there, and being one of few PC games still sold millions, I wouldn't call it garbage.

i gotta say, i am not a fan of the new battlefield game. i tried to give the beta another shot today to win me over, but it was not happening. it seemed like half the magazine is loaded with blanks, i am looking the guy in his pixelated little eyes and crank 5 shots center mass but only get 2 hit markers then he kills me......... towards the end of it i was only using shotguns because you dont have to aim, just get someone in the circle and spam the trigger till they fall. you cant swap teams, and it does not seem like teams balance out so if you are on the losing team one round you will be on the losing team next round. most importantly though it does not feel like a battlefield game. it honestly feels like a mix between call of duty and medal of honor warfighter. i think i will take the money i had set aside for hardline and get the new borderlands collection for xbone. i like borderlands and i have a feeling that the borderlands collection will run better and be more fun.

If you have already played borderlands 2 or 3 it would be a waste to buy it again for xbone. I had 2600 hours into borderlands 2 and was very active on the old gearbox forum community. I got the chance to play the handsome collection a couple weeks ago and it was virtually the xbox 360 version all over again. the graphics are not that much better and when the game releases I am willing to bet that in the first couple of days the review sites will be claiming that the game isn't worth buying if you already owned it. If you do decide to buy it add me on xbone as i haven't finished the pre-sequel yet and i got a free copy coming from gearbox
