There is no reason to fix that part other than cosmetics.

to get 300 watts - you need a sub that can be wired to a 4ohm load

This means if you are putting in one sub you will need

    1 sub with a single voice coil(svc) 4ohm, or a dual voice coil (dvc) 2ohm or 8ohm.

to get the most power 550 watts

1 sub - you need a dual voice coil 4 ohm sub - which can be wired to 2ohms

this is a great site to help you get started, especially if you want more than one sub

Car audio technical information with more than 125 individual pages, 50+ calculators and wav files. The covered topics range from basic electronics theory to more advanced topics such as speaker impedance as it relates to frequency, damping factor and signal to noise ratio.

remember, when you install the amp, make sure it is fused properly and you have good power and ground connections..... a lot of people don't take time for proper grounding and that is just as important as the power.

This is a dual voice coil sub, right?

Saw this on craigslist and I was going to get it, but I think its a dual voice coil 4 ohm. I would have to wire it to a 2 ohm load correct? If that's the case my amp would blow it up at 550w. I think that sub is 300rms. Am I right in what I am saying? It's an older JL sub for only $25 bucks.

Never mind about the woofer above. I picked up one of these off of craigslist for $20 bucks. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sony-Xplod...oofer/12016333

Might be too big for my trunk though.

I don't really think it is too big for my trunk. It just looks big.
