Forum slow to load

Apparently, the XMLRPC exploit in wordpress has finally been used in a large scale, recently:

So this is another DDoS attack to look for.

I checked my logs and my site hasn't been used as an attack node, but I went ahead and created an OSSEC rule with an active response trigger to mitigate anyone trying to use my site for DDoS. I'd disable XMLRPC, but I want the pingback feature enabled, still.

Don't just sit there, do something! If this was my website I'd be moving it to a host that has the infrastructure to handle the traffic, obviously this host does not have that ability!

According to GeoVario we have been being hammered constantly for the last 36 hours. They are trying to determine who or what is behind it.

Our current database cluster is being overwhelmed and we may be shutting the forum down to migrate to different cluster.

I'm not sure if this is an attack or not however when I click on other web sites hosted by Professional Edge (GeoVario's new name) they are still as fast as ever. It seems to be Calguns specific.

it may have been getting progressively worse over the last 36 hours - but it's been going on much longer than that...

I noticed the signs at least a week ago... every time there is a bog down, the pattern/symptoms are the same... I used to post in the suggestions forum but often the response is "stop whining" (not from staff, but in general).

The thought of shut down to fix gives me anxiety not really, but... well, yes it really does.

with the threads on armatrix's seemingly unsavory business practices (and affiliations) and pertinent CCW info for CA, it makes sense for certain groups to hire trolls to DDOS and otherwise compromise this site.
