Crazy slow page loads on my SG4 using chrome. Very annoying.

5 minutes for a post to load is REEEE-DONK-U-LOUS!!!!

Don't just sit there, do something! If this was my website I'd be moving it to a host that has the infrastructure to handle the traffic, obviously this host does not have that ability!

You know its bad when it becomes normal routine to click a link, then browse other sites while you wait.

You know its bad when you try to correct a typo right away but still cant beat the "Last edited" stamp timer

We've been getting mauled by Google and bing bots, I got this from GeoVario:
"Seems Googlebot and bingbot are competing as to who can get the most pages from your site. We ran an analysis on your logs and the process to count the number of requests was well over a half-million ( on each of your 3 web servers ) when we stopped counting as it was causing more of a slowdown on your site just trying to figure out how many million requests there were per server"
I am currently setting up a test server to see how upgrading to vB 4.2 will affect things like iTrader and such. vB 4.2 has much better coding to deal with bots, I've been holding off on upgrading because I didn't want to lose several of the modifications that members like. We've been doing spot fixes and patches to the coding to keep 3.8 viable but it's getting difficult and time consuming.

maybe with an update to 4.2, they can also implement a Moderation auto-PM mod where a user will be automatically PM'ed whenever a post is modded. http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=241248

So this site is still performing pretty badly after another 2 days.

Perhaps you would consider different tact?

If the issue is still the web crawlers, then I'd suggest a strategy of isolate and contain where you would either setup a new server or use 1 of the multiple existing servers and then isolate all the crawler traffic. Limit the number DB connections that this isolation server can make. End result is that they'd slow each other down and allow the rest of us humans to browse normally.

On the other hand, if I were you, I'd just block them. No point in having them index the site when the site is not usable.

Apparently, the XMLRPC exploit in wordpress has finally been used in a large scale, recently:

So this is another DDoS attack to look for.

I checked my logs and my site hasn't been used as an attack node, but I went ahead and created an OSSEC rule with an active response trigger to mitigate anyone trying to use my site for DDoS. I'd disable XMLRPC, but I want the pingback feature enabled, still.
