Any reason to choose Netflix over Amazon.Prime?

Amz Prime is $16.88 cheaper per year. You get free second day shipping on most products. You get free ebooks as well. So why would I keep Netflix.

To add difficulty avoid narrow based arguments like, Netflix has this one bizarre show from the 80's that Amazon doesn't. Things like this are more personal choice issues and I'm looking at the bigger picture.

Not to be a hipster but I dropped cable before dropping cable was cool. Not cause I'm cool like that but because we were poor like that ;-) Still, I found back then that with netflix and some other online sources I did not miss cable. Now I'm looking at Amz prime, which I already had just for the shipping.

So say you are going to make a recommendation to a friend and specific shows are not an issue, just general amount and quality of shows and other non user specific issues are relevant.

I have both but find I use Netflix more because of all the TV shows. They seem to have a wider selection as well. If I did not have Amazon prime for the shipping, I would dump it in a heart beat and never miss it.

You still have to pay for a bunch of stuff with prime whereas netflix everything is included.

Also; sometimes season one is free on prime. but not the rest...

But anyway; I have both... and Hulu.

Shows are easier to find / browse on Netflix. Their categories seem to change on the fly and are based in some sense on what you have already watched. You can also have individual profiles for each viewer in the family so that for instance a bunch of your kid's shows won't show up in your "recently watched" list and recommendations. Amazon's video is just basically a list of stuff they have and it's not making any recommendations based on your viewing history. That being said, Amazon initially loads up a list of movies a heck of a lot faster. Netflix seems to take a long time with that big red splash screen. At least on my crappy blu-ray/internet player.

I have both though and am considering adding Hulu as well.

I'll let you all in on a little secret of mine:

Code applies to your account (new or existing) as $7.99 x 12 months. You can always change your plan to 4 screens simultaneously ($11.99/month plan) and it will just give you credit for a shorter duration.

Why pay $96 a year when you can pay $50??

I've been an Amazon Prime member since before they started having instant video, so I'll continue to use both.

Just started using Amazon Prime's streaming so I'm not up to speed with it, but more and more, Netflix seems to be the place where 1 and 2 star movies go to die.

Netflix is better in every way but I use both because I order a lot of stuff from amazon.

i expense amazon prime through my business so i get both.

i find that prime's definition in movies and tv shows is superior but the diversity lacking. i switch back and forth depending on what i want to watch. i say get both if you can but if your need to watch a good variety of shows is more important than free shipping, go netflix.

I swear they are always sending me the most random things... they just magically show up on my doorstep

I have Amazon Prime student since I'm military I'm eternally in college, lol. I also keep my Netflix account. I don't see the point in having only one or the other when the shows I watch occasionally flip from one service to the other. I was watching Stargate SG-1 when one day it was suddenly on Prime instead.

Get both. Prime also gives free 2-day shipping which is why I got it in the first place. $15/month for both is my only TV expense.

Netflix generally has better selection than Prime.

If you're paying for Prime anyway, then it's nice to have the video services, but I wouldn't pick Prime over netflix if your primary concern was TV show/Movie services.
