Windows8 issues???

I just picked up a used computer that has Windows8 installed and I'm having some issues.

When I do a search in google it comes back with a LAVAsoft secure search result which doesn't seem to like Calguns.

Also, google analytics pops up on the screen while in the browsed and I can't figure how to remove it.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

unless you really like lavasoft you can disable the secure search

I would open the browser and disable all addons from the options and then maybe uninstall lavasoft whatever from the add/remove programs. Then reset browser back to default settings and see if that changed.

Or, look for a new FREE Linux OS from this page if you are not very attached to this new invasion of privac- err I mean windows...:

Sound like your computer is infected with spyware. Automatic pop up window, auto redirect website and such are clues. I myself never trust a machine with my personal info and passwords unless I install a fresh version of windows myself.

The OP just needs to choose a different search engine in IE. Duckduckgo and Startpage.com do not track you like Google and Bing do.

Start button? On the start screen, start typing anywhere in the open area and Win8 will find anything you're looking for. It's that easy.

The magic of windows 8 is all in the Windows key on your keyboard. Try Windows key and R or Windows key and X for two examples.

Windows 8 free upgrade to 8.1 is supposed to have a start button, right?

Tabs have been pissing me off for years, as it is a less efficient interface, if you need multiple pages up at the same time, compared to say the WinXP interface with a small description of each opened page in different instances of a browser, AND you can put a shortcut to actual documents in a Quicklaunch (which is hidden by default even in Windows 7[, also less efficient]).

Thanks for suggestions guys. I have downloaded Avast and CCleaner to help find issues. I've attempted to download Spybot and it says download complete but I can't find it. It is very frustrating at the moment. I may have to go with a fresh install or choose the linux route. Very unhappy right now.

Spybot and Malware Bytes will hunt down the nasties as well as avast for always being on, Just be certain to disable that damn webshield or else it will throttle back your d/ling from the newsgroups...

I got ghostery up and running and it seems to be helping.
