I recently read a tech article that showed the high priced cables rarely if ever are any better quality than the inexpensive ones. YMMV.
It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.

Monoprice is my first choice but for higher quality cables it would be these guys! Monster tried to bully Blue Jeans Cable.

Since it is a digital signal, don't go and spend $70 on an HDMI cable from best buy or some other store.
Analog, Optical cables would be a different story.

For HDMI, the blueriggers from amazon are a good buy (well put together for cheap cable). I have a few of those.

I also have a cable I bought on ebay for $0.99 about 7 years ago - been working flawlessly since.

That is not entirely true. Part of the HDMI standard is a "handshake" protocol where both devices identify each other and test the highest sustainable throughput. Then the agree on what resolution can be supported. Generally, You will not be informed if your resolution has been diminished, you just don't end up getting as good of a picture as you paid for.

There is a reason I dropped the coin to buy one of these. then again, I want my customers to get the very best picture they can afford

I splurged a little bit and got an upgraded gold plated HDMI cable for only $7 at Fry's a couple years back Picture is crystal clear. No need to drop $60+ on Monster cables etc thats all marketing hype!

Even the handshake is still 1's and 0's, right?

1's is 1's, and 0's is 0's. Because if not, you might as well buy over-priced Monster cables for their rhetoric and loopy "science" I have heard about.

All HDMI cables are virtually the same in that they all transfer the same data at the same rate.

after that you are looking at aesthetics, extra shielding, protective layers and perceived value.

this comes directly from an installer of extreme high end home theater systems.

I have never spent more than $20 on an HDMI cable because of this advice.

Look at (i know odd place but the cheapest I have found) Lowe's and the other is Fry's Electronics.

The data is interpreted as 1s and 0s but that's not actually what is being sent. The HDMI cable is still made of conductors and wires. A 1 vs 0 isn't just like a light switch, it's typically defined as voltage above some value is 1 below some value (not zero) is 0. But there can be interference and attenuation on a cable that cause what is sent to not be received accurately. Part of the HDMI standard is to define and minimize some of these issues, but maybe the cheaper cables aren't so strict. If the initial handshake doesn't decide your run of cable can handle the highest resolution, you don't get the highest resolution. Ever.

HDMI itself doesn't define error correction, that is up to the protocol sent over the HDMI cable. In theory, the error correction could make up for a crappy cable, but then maybe too many errors just results in no connection at all.

I'm not saying Monster Uber Silver Oxide Titanium Oxgen Free Unicorn Fart Injected HDMI cables are the only way to go. I buy from monoprice. I like their prices and I've ordered many other types of cables from them and them appear well built and survived the abuse I have put them through. I'm just saying that the "it's digital, so cable quality doesn't matter" isn't really true. It is true to say that if your HDMI cable meets the minimum specs, a better cable won't help your picture quality. But you still need a cable that actually meets those specs and can transport whatever the HDMI spec says is a 1 or a 0 differentiated at the the other end of the cable.

Yes, in a pinch the 2 pack of 6ft cables for $29 is a good deal, but still can not beat Monoprice if you can wait a few days.

I was shocked to find the cables at Lowe's as well.
