You wont miss much. Antenna to get local channels, and I have been surviving on Netflix, Amazon Instant and Hulu+, I will say that the only reason I still have Netflix is because I can stream that to my phone, but Amazon Instant has almost all the exact same shows and movies. I definitely think the Amazon Instant is going to make me renew my Prime membership in a few months when it expires. Only thing that I really feel like I am missing out on is the new episodes of Futurama on Comedy Central right now, but I know it wont be too long before I can watch them on Netflix anyway.Any man who afflicts the human race with ideas must be prepared to see them misunderstood. - H.L Mencken

yeah, plan on getting an HD antenna for the TV downstairs.
and in the bedroom we have laptop powered 26" monitor to watch the "DVR" stuff.
i cant wait for cable to be shut off though. it was a small investment for this, 10$/m for usenet and $10 for nzbmatrix VIP so will be 120$/y with this vs. 120$/m with cable!!!!Comment

Also need advice/help. Have never watched tv much so I'm not familiar with how this all works right now:
Want these channels the most:
Cooking, maybe Travel, History, Discovery, maybe Food (the quality of programming on the last 3 channels has... declined lately)
Want these:
MTV2, Nat Geo, Science, Destination, maybe Military, maybe Planet Green?? (the one where they go to random green places)
Want if possible, can do without:
Comedy, basic cable for events like a big game or the olympics, a movie channel such as AMC, a variety of foreign channels (any) - I understand some of them but even the rest are all kind of revealing or eye opening to watch every so often.Comment

I agree on passing for cable tv.
I can only recommend RCN/Astound/Comcast. Steer clear of AT&T unless you have no choice. Their connections are NEVER close to what they should be. I had their fastest package and averaged 2MB/sComment

Thinking about joining Usenet to give it a shot. Realistically I would be looking for a handful of shows when new episodes are out, Futurama, NCIS, and a few others the GF likes. Oh and I need to get caught up from the beginning with falling skies somehow, GFs uncle got me to watch an episode at their place the other night and now I'm hooked. Is it worth it to pay the extra $5 a month for an unlimited account or should I be fine with a 50GB capped Lite account?Any man who afflicts the human race with ideas must be prepared to see them misunderstood. - H.L Mencken

Get an Entertainment Center PC dude. The internet is full of videos to be watched and info to be gleaned from that just begs to be on a big screen. We got our setup for altogether, I think $180. Spend $250-$350, and you've got a killer HTPC that will run 1080P like nothing. And if you need a controller, get this:

That is the Lenovo N5902, and it's the best investment you can make at around $50. It's a mouse-keyboard combo that works GREAT. You type on it like you're texting, and use your thumb on the mouse. We've had the old version and now this new one, and they are awesome. Get the new one. You'll love it. It also makes a great emergency keyboard and mouse for your main PC if your keyboard or mouse dies.
Oh, another nice thing about an HTPC: You can sail the high seas!
(legally of course. Old out-of-copyright movies are always fun to download and have a laugh at)

Go with Hulu+. Watch your shows when YOU want, not at the time and date someone else decides. And you can use the subscription on your computer or smartphone as well. I have been thinking of ditching Time Warner. I have a Mc D's and starbuck with free wifi like 1/2 mile away and was thinking of getting a outdoor wifi antenna and going with Hulu and netflix. any thoughts?"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." -Ben Franklin

Ditched TWC and been using my Sprint SGII to wireless tether all my PCs when I'm home. Outdoor wifi antenna may be good to pickup local open access points or public hotspots. Anyone have a great outdoor setup to recommend?sigpicHandguns/Shotguns/RiflesComment
