Not to thread jack, but what OTA receiver do you guys use/recommend?

I DON'T recommend RCA DTA 800B. I bought it at Walmart, because that's all they had, and didn't know what else to get. My complaints:

• It doesn't allow you to delete channels (I get a lot of Spanish channels and I don't speak spanish, and I can't delete them).
• It takes eight button clicks to switch between widescreen and standard (some stations still use standard). There should be a single button to toggle.

Other than that it works ok. But when I get some time, I'm gonna look for something better.

There's nothing wrong with the Roku, don't know why there were bad reviews. The Roku 2 XD and XS are the models I'd look into. I have used the XS and it is pretty nice. You can stream a lot of movies and shows for free using the built-in services.

I had an issue one time where the wired connection failed to function. I switched it over to WiFi, and although it was slower, it did function. THEN the WiFi failed to function... so I switched back to wired. These are the ONLY problems I have ever had. I think it was a bad firmware rollout for a few days...

Roku works very nice on a FiOS pipe, but this is all I have ever used it on.

Internet and basic cable for just $63.00 a month...and what is the cost for them? Its about $5.00 for the internet, and mayeb another $2.50 for basic cable....no wonder they can advertise so much and have fleets of trucks swarming the lunch places at noon.....

There has got to be a better way to get internet than with cable...I would think in ten years they are out of business once someone develops a wireless network to take them out.

the cable company is coming out tomorrow to have one of their guys retrieve their cable boxes and install a filter so we can't get TV channels through the existing cable line.

After they put the filter on the line, re-scan your channels on your TV. Assuming it's a new(er) TV, you might be surprised at what you can still watch.

Netflix, Hulu Plus and antenna do the job for me.

30 bucks a month for both. Can't beat it. Also I get ESPN on my Xbox. Free app.

Depending on the antenna and/ or where you point it, you will be able to get your local major broadcast channels... in HD. ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, etc.

You will not (never say never?) get the History Channel, Comedy Central etc.

I can tell you to not even consider going with AT&T for anything. Just get Dish or DirecTV and call it a day. Costco has a good deal on D TV for members and it wasn't a bad price if you must have TV. I watch about 5 channels so its hardly worth it for me to keep buying cable.

Clear.com works everywhere with 4G reception. Netflix or hulu for shows.

Well, the setup I have gone with for now is the Xbox in the living room for Netflix, Hulu plus and Amazon Instant. Upgraded the bedroom TV from a tube TV to an LCD and picked up the Roku box for that room so I get the same stuff as I can on the Xbox. Might look into an antenna in the next few weeks. Would be nice to have NBC when the Olympics are on.

not sure if it's an option where you are at, but i use satellite. They have an unadvertised 'Family' package is $29.95 month and includes about 50 channels with major network coverage and local programming.

Ditched cable for 3 years now and just use Netflix and other sites to watch as well as use OTA digital using a indoor antenna. Then TWC raised my internet from $29 to $38 and took off Turbo. Basic internet at 1MB DL is $30. So I decided to just use my SII using Sprint as a wireless hotspot and get anywhere from 2MB to 10MB on 4G. Will probably upgrade phones when LTE rolls out and has faster speeds. $69 unlimited everything for me and now internet as well.
