Well if you are video editing, encoding, transcoding, you really feel it. Load up Handbrake and have at it too. Even working with multiple big images in photoshop will push these old systems in this thread to the painful edge of having a stare contest with your monitor. Pretty practical use. No thanks.

"Just leave me alone, I know what to do." - Kimi Raikkonen
The moment the idea is admitted into society, that property is not as sacred as the laws of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence.' and that `Property is surely a right of mankind as real as liberty.'

Also, sometimes I type in CAPS to emphasize a POINT. Please dont interpret that as YELLING. Sorry if I HURT any fuzzy little bunny's FEELINGS out there.Comment

There is a difference, and it don't just matter if you're gaming, and it's not only noticeable when you're looking at benchmarks.
My point is that people who say otherwise are pretty much just trying to convince themselves that it's true.NRA Life Member

My main machine has been up and running since 2005
AMD Athlon 64 3800 X2
Kingston 2 GB RAM
Jetway MOBO
Generic Radeon graphics card
Samsung Writemaster dvd burner
500GB Seagate Constellation HD
250GB Seagate Barracuda
USB ASUS Blur-RAY Writer (internal on a usb cradle/plug)
When I am asked about the age of a machine; the SOUL in my opinion is the OS. Without the OS installed and running you only have parts. So, My OS has been up and running since 2005 and it is windows XP vanilla now with SP3. I only really run windows XP variants. one of the previous HDs took a hit so the Constellation replaced several drives. I have just added the blur-ray writer.
My game system has been up since 2008 with hardly any variances.
AMD x4 Phenom 950 Black Edition
Gigabyte MOBO
4GB RAM
Nvidia 285GTX graphics (good enough for Skyrim, Borderlands, Crysis and Forged Alliance...)
Onboard Sound
Cooler Master STORM case
Silencer 700w Firetruck RED PSU
Cooler Master V8 CPU cooler
Been running like a champ for the past 4 years. I only upgraded the GPU from a 260 about 3 years ago.
Running Windows XP Pro Black Edition I think.
I have other systems but those are the two I mainly use.7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...
Need GOOD SS pins to clean your brass? Try the new and improved model...

Theres not a difference if you not running huge programs. Maybe for you if your constantly running programs that actually matter. But for the average user, doesnt mean ****.A note to the NSA or anyone gathering information on me, this disclaimer is for you..."Everything I type on this website Is purely fictional and for entertainment purposes only. I have Pentium IV that I have had about 4-5 years. I have to take the sides of the case off in order for it to run without overheating. I also have a functioning Pentium III and a semi-functioning Pentium II sitting on the floor of my bedroom! FTIW, I have a fully functioning Commodore 128 sitting in storage.Comment

dell xps w 17" screen, most of the bells and whistles. New in Jan 2011 The desktop it replaced was rocking a mix of 2002-2004 vintage hardware. If it was a snake, it would have bit me.

The laptop roars. I used to be a quiet freak, now not so much. The fans only blow big time when the GPU is working and then I am usually wearing headphones anyways. My desktop fans (while replaceable I wasn't replacing them) had developed a number of whines that were less "white noise" like than what I have now.If it was a snake, it would have bit me.
