    I'd wait for the 5.

The rumors are that it will be out in Sept or by early next year, if Apple turns out a 4gs first instead (which would come out in Sept). I'd be willing to bet that it will be out in Sept, because Droid is gobbling up so much market share. Apple can't afford to wait too long to release a substantial update.

Aside from that, the tech upgrade rumors are what would make waiting for the 5 worth it.

Dual processors, almost full face screen (barely any bezel), thinner profile a la the new iPod touches, 8 megapixel HD camera and new LED flash and the home button redesigned to allow touch gesturing for a planned future OS update. Also, the eventual new OS update is supposed to have over the air updates. (no word if that will apply to older model iPhones). Having finally, an iPhone that doesn't HAVE to be tethered to iTunes will be quite nice as well.

    I'd wait for that.

The Apple 5 was supposed to be released in July, however, with the earthquake and nuclear meltdown, and subsequent issues with power in Japan it has been delayed until at least September.

I understand hardware is the issue. Supply chain has been disrupted and power issued are slowing all manufacturing.

      I agree with Iknownot,

Personally, I prefer an open source phone over the iPhone. I've had Google phones since they first rolled out, starting with the original Droid, then Incredible, then the Droid X - which is my current phone.

For most sheeple though, the iPhone is the way to go. There's nothing to think about.

I have the 3gs,contract is up and I have the unlimited plan. I'm holding out for at least a 4gs. just from rumors online we might get something by Sept.

The plus is that the 3gs parts are cheap and it's easily repaired at home, I've broken the glass twice and the LCD once. the old cell phones were garbage once you broke the screen.

Thanks for all the responses. The 5 sounds pretty advanced over the 4. Android devices are not an option, which is why they weren't included in the original post.

Heaven forbid someone prefer an easy to use smart phone, that does everything they would need a smart phone to do, in a well thought package, with an above average battery life.

If that makes someone a sheeple, well then I say "baaaaaa!"

Pretty much anything one can buy today is obsolete. The latest and greatest is always just around the corner.

At some point, the utility value of what you can get today and use until the next release exceeds the prospective value of the '2 in the bush'.

I can upgrade my phone - but for my needs, there's no urgency; I'm going to wait for an official announcement from Apple about the next iPhone, and decide if I want to wait for their schedule on the next version.

I work for AT&T and am able to try out every phone and I always find myself going back to the iPhone. It has the best interface and it's the easiest smartphone to use. In general I don't like apple products (due to cost vs. value) but when their phones are priced similar to most smartphones in the same group I feel the iPhone is the way to go.

The only thing I like about android phones is flash, that's it.

Not to thread jack but since you work for AT&T did you hear when the Samsung Attain/Galaxy S2 will come out. Everyone at the stores just shruge when I ask. On the verge of just jumping for a Samsung Infuse. BTW I am still in the dark ages with my dumbphone Motorola Tundra.
