Think I'm over modern gaming consoles

I've had a PS5 since last December, and I've gotta say I'm liking it less and less. I rarely ever play it in the first place since I don't have much time having young kids at home, but the fact that all games have to be installed to the internal hard drive before being played is pretty annoying. It's time consuming and the hard drive gets filled up fast. I've played maybe 6 different games and the hard drive is full. I was going to play it last night but after having to clear up hard drive space for game updates and then wait for the game updates to download and install, it had been over a half hour of waiting and I was tired so I went to bed.

I like playing my Xbox 360 because I can just pop in a game disc and play. My PS3 requires install of some games, but they're tiny in comparison and quick, and a 1 TB hard drive can hold a ton of game data. If the PS5 requires all that, I'd rather just stick to using my gaming PC as it has a ton more storage, I can expand it for far cheaper, and it's more flexible.

Thinking of selling the PS5 and just not owning any more modern consoles. I've got everything Xbox 360/PS3 and below and really enjoy the older stuff anyway.

Anybody else share my sentiment, or am I just too much "get off my lawn" and you guys are enjoying your PS5?

just use a computer for games, it pays for itself since you can also do work, use the internet, watch movies, and play games on it if you want. consoles can only do one thing and are overpriced. having a separate computer and a console is redundant. laptops might be useful if you move around a lot, but they are now extremely cheap. it wouldn't be superfluous to have both a computer at home and a laptop for business or travel

        I like my PS5. It’s fine.

It has an NVMe port inside to put in a bigger drive if you want.

See I have all that, had a bad *** gaming desktop I built (about $3,500) before I got the PS5, also have a decent gaming laptop which is like 3 years old but still works well, and was top of the line when I bought it. Really the main reasons I bought the PS5 were because I had the chance when they were very hard to get, and for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which was an exclusive at the time but not anymore, and Gran Turismo 7, which will always be an exclusive, but I have rarely played it. It's mostly just the inconvenience of limited storage and having to install huge amounts of game data to play anything which bugs me the most. I like consoles for convenience, but having to go through the whole install and uninstall process and wait for huge game updates to download negates that. I do like the fact that it's fully backwards compatible with PS4 as I never had one of those. I don't know, I may just keep it anyway and let it collect dust under my TV. I just don't foresee buying any more consoles.

I know, I almost bought a 2 TB SSD last night, but figured I'll think a little more on if I want to keep it or not, but I probably will. Even if I rarely play it. The whole console experience just isn't the same.

I've been a console player since the NES but I think my PS4 will be the last console I own and I'm in the process of building my first gaming PC. Like you the only real draw for me on the horizon is the continuation of the FF7 Remake games but like you mentioned it's not exclusive anymore so why not get the PC version with better graphics and modding capability? Given the line is blurring more and more between console and PC at as well pick the one that gives you more options.

Switch owner here. Only own a few games. Use it for casual "pick it up & put it down" gaming. Good for social gatherings.. am not using it for anything serious. Kids prefer Roblox or tablet gaming. Lukewarm on consoles overall.

Have a PS5 and I agree on the sentiments expressed but I really want to see the new VR set up coming soon. That may make it worthwhile from what I've read.

Can't wait for the new VR. I have the VR on the old PS4 Pro and its great.

I still only have an Xbox One. But it's the only thing hooked up to our TV. It plays games, it plays DVDs, and it has apps for all the streaming services, so we use it for Netflix, Amazon, youtube etc. I'm not really a gamer so I only have a few games. Truthfully the "download only" construct in gaming now is partly why I don't have more though. It's definitely obnoxious that you have to buy expanded data storage to have more than a few games. That's like selling a car with a 5 gallon fuel tank and only the upgraded models have 13.

I have an XBOX ONE, its fun and all, but nothing beats the joy of my PS2 Slim and N64. Which I play once in a blue moon.
I hate the whole downloading new updates and perks with the new games.
