Yeah, I did have a MiFi but the service is quite spotty. No point in paying for crappy service so I canceled the Mifi.

I still have satellite internet but it's really not very good and a 10GB plan doesn't last very long before the throttling begins. Can't game at all and I have a gaming monkey on my back ...
Try T Mobile. They have a 30 days free trial. They will send you a 4G hotspot and you can use it anywhere you want. It comes with 30GB of data. If the 4G works at your location, the 5G should too.

Try our 5G and satellite network free for 30 days. No commitment or credit card required. Keep your number and see how our network stacks up.

      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Recent sw update on cell or vpn?

I had sudden connect tethering problems at one time and had to disable vpn before connecting to cell w/laptop. Turning vpn back on after it connected gave me a consistent connection.

Try turning off vpn if you have one. At least for testing purposes.

*I got better connections on laptop after switching cell into developer mode.

Hope you get it sorted. I live very rural and cell/sat service is all that is available. Huge pain in balls w/comms service.

            1. Reboot everything
            2. Allow no other devices or computers to connect to the hotspot
            3. Open the WiFi settings on the Windows 7 PC and let it search for all connections. This can take a while and you might see some show up and disappear, this is normal.
            4. Forget all other WiFi connections
            5. Review and see if the hotspot shows up. If it does, try to connect.

            if not:

In Windows 7 go to device manager (Control Panel)
Remove the wireless NIC. (not disable - remove or uninstall)
Do not rescan for new devices.
Reboot the Windows 7 PC. Insure no other local (your own) Wifi are active The wireless NIC will reinstall.
Now open the configuration for the wireless NIC. Make sure you uncheck allow this device to save power by shutting down when not being used. The wording is a bit different but that description is enough for you to figure it out. The reason you do this is because with that setting turned on the wireless NIC can turn off if it doesn't connect right away.
After the reboot wait about 3 minutes for it to load all drivers and stabilize.
            Now try to connect.

            Other things to look for:

Many hotspots have a limit of the number of devices they will let connect. This is why you don't allow other devices to connect before your PC connects.

Your phone should always be plugged into the charger when using it as a hotspot (if possible).

Do not place your phone really close to the PC but rather about 6' away.

Make sure both your phone and the PC are using the same security protocol. (WPA/WEP/WPA2 etc).

Make sure your phone has a good connection itself.

Set the home page in the PC's browser to blank. That way it doesn't try to load anything when the browser is opened.

There are some other things but try those first.

Still not working. My kids phone can see my ssid and connect no problem. So my phone is working fine.

Computer can see kids phone hotspot and connect.

              Frustrating.

Bingo! Sort of ... man, that setting was buried!

Phone setting was "Use 5G if a available" ... some update must have botched that feature.

I even used a 5G NIC adapter and it still could not see the phone!

Anyway, turned off the 5G option (actually can specifically select 2.4G).

                Seems to be working now.

                Thanks good folk!
