Update:
Yesterday, my wife and I received our iPhone 12 Pro by mail, from Verizon.
Today, I followed the instructions on the Version website, and switched our iPhone X's to the iPhone 12 Pro's. Everything went smoothly.

Just curious but did you have to call VZW to activate the new phone, or what did that look like?
On mine - AT&T - I just swap SIMs - but VZW doesn't use SIMs / GSM; they use what; CDMA?

Thanks. I didn’t need to call Verizon.
I just went to the Verizon website, under my Account page there was a link to activate the new phone.
I clicked the link to confirm, and in a couple minutes my iPhone 12 Pro showed an notification that it was activated. Pretty smooth process.Comment

Hey can anyone here talk to the different payment plans?
It makes sense to me to take advantage of the various plans out there where you can pay a bit per month instead of $1k+ all up front.
You theoretically (very key phrase here as I'm learning) get to trade-in / upgrade your phone about every year, maybe every 2.
So; small monthly payment instead of $1k+ new phone every year or two.

Well, I logged into AT&T's site to check my upgrade eligibility; I've been on their payment plan for pushing 2 years, but they say I'm STILL not eligible for an upgrade for another couple months.
If I want to upgrade now, I have to pay almost $200 to "buy out" the phone, THEN upgrade and start paying all over again.
I only plan on keeping phones 1-2 years, so I don't care about the money, but I don't want to get outright screwed, which it seems AT&T is trying to do.
How does Apple's upgrade program work? Is it better than those offered by the carriers?
I haven't yet called AT&T to deal with this yet but I'm going to make a stink because I haven't upgraded for 2 years and at that time, I made a big deal of wanting to be able to upgrade every 1-2 years.
I wanted to be assured that I'd get to upgrade as I wanted, and they promised me that, at that time.
Otherwise, I'd rather just buy the damn phone & not have to worry about getting shafted thru one of these stupid plans if you don't actually get to upgrade like they promise.

As far as ATT upgrade issues, it could be related to their recent insane promotion of giving up to $800 for a trade in. I thought you could upgrade earlier than 2 years but maybe things have changed.
All of the different carriers offer many different promotions quarter to quarter. Apple seems to stay consistent in that there are no promotions.
You might consider paying the $200 to ATT if they are going to give you the full $800 for the device. A net trade in of $600. If you have paid the phone off minus $200, that would make sense. It would not be worth taking to the private market with a used for at the price.
You could also tell ATT that you are considering making the move to Verizon or Sprint (or where ever). If you feel the upgrade denial is not legit. Phone carriers have been known to bend things for their customers like a auto dealership. So there is a chance the ATT will choose to waive the $200, or make some kind of effort in order to keep you.Last edited by Mr. Blue; 11-06-2020, 6:39 PM.Comment
