so jeepers did you ever get that printer and if so how is it?
I was looking at the same one but after doing a little research I found it on ebay being sold by the same people for over 100 bucks less then the amazon one. seriously thinking about dropping 150 bucks on one just to have something in house to print quad copter parts on.
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

Do some research for what you're getting into with the Chinese i3 clones. They come with a serious risk of fire.

I have two of them and there are steps you can take to reduce the risk but they are made with absolutely the cheapest materials possible.

If you just want something to play around with and to teach yourself what 3D printing is all about I've got one that I'm not using that I would sell for cheap'ish ($150). It's fully assembled and runs. Print quality is ok, not amazing but it works. And if you like it you can upgrade it quite a bit or do what most people do, sell it to another newbie and move on to a more advanced machine.

It's a delta style, I think it's a kossel mini style. I think this is the same thing: LINK

I picked it up off of Craigslist from a guy who had bought it as a Father/Son project. Sadly he was not the most technical of people and they gave up with it halfway assembled. I finished it with my kids and now they never use it. They just use my printer since I rarely use that one much. I'm more into my CNC these days.

It runs best with a version of Marlin designed for these printers. The stock version of Marlin the manufacture sent with the machine had major issues so I teamed up with a guy on Github and we branched a version specifically for this version of the machine. It works great and I can send you a link to the repository.

Yea my son and I were actually going to build the I3 clone as a project. We built FPV race quadcopters as our last project but we are looking for something we can do while it is rainy and windy out.

If spddrcr doesn't take it, I will. My niece has been asking me a ton of questions about 3d printing and I think she would love one.

Sure thing, email me at red@red-beard.com I'm not on CG as much as I used to be so I often miss PM's.

I've had a Printrbot Plus (the original laser cut wood kit) and a Printrbot Simple Metal (from kit) and an Openbeam Kossel Pro (still have it but the firmware is borked) and now use a heavily customized Monoprice Maker Select v2. Things you will want to investigate:

                  - Grabcad
                  - Cura
                  - Meshmixer
                  - Tinkercad

                  Learn all about
                  - Nozzle cleaning
                  - Bed leveling and first layer adhesion
                  - Various filament properties, especially as they cool and warp

A big decision and one I suggest is a heated print bed and, if possible, an enclosed build volume. Glad to answer any specific questions. I'd stay away from makerbot and DaVinci: They try to lock people into their ecosystem. The Prusa i3 MK2 and anything from Lulzbot are quality choices.

I'll give the other guy a few days to claim it first

Got a family members Prusa Mendel project to finish that has been on a shelf for a few years.

From my experience using several Makerbots each from different generations has been nothing but in a pain in the ***.

I'm not sure about the ALUNAR you're looking at but I am sure that Makerbots are garbage and you should stay away.

                        Hope this helps.

Makerbot is a brand that just makes me gringe. $1500 for a printer that can only print pla. My printer puts out the same quality, prints multiple materials and costs 1/4 the price

Makerbot was one of the pioneers of open 3D printing, but then they got bought out by commercial rapid prototyping giant Stratasys (who made industrial printers in the tens of thousands of dollars and charged hundreds per spool of filament) because Stratasys saw home printers as a threat. Then they turned their business model to be anti-openness and anti-consumer. Here's a blog post from a couple years ago and they never got better

There is a documentary about it on Netflix also. I think it's called Print a Legend or something.

I have a Prusa i3 from MakerFarm. Just be aware that it is something you will need to tinker with a lot. It isn't the type of thing that works right every time, something always needs attention.

I would upgrade to a E3D hot end very quickly. A good hot end makes a big difference.
