OP, maybe sometime like this? I'm a trackball fan, but that seems like it could be kinda nice since you can use the mouse with your hand/arm wherever you'd like.

Trackball for sure. I don't like those above, I prefer symetric devices. I have a kensington.
Big ball, has scroll wheel, symetrical design.
Only thing I don't like is the clicks are too loud. That's a small complaint. Also, you will become a two handed mouser, which in some circles is an insult. I don;t give a damn.

I moused with a small travel mouse for a year at work and by the end my hand was getting numb regularly. Switched to trackball, that's all gone.Comment

Most people I see with Macbooks don't use a mouse. I checked it out and the trackpad is good enough that I didn't use the mouse even when docked.
What you need in a trackpad:
- large enough size to go reach across the screen in 1 movement, at your desired sensitivity
- pressing it down as a button isn't too hard or mushy, double-clicking should be comfortable.Comment

What I need in a track pad is hardware buttons that are separate from the pad, and a middle click. That narrows down the field of choices to only a couple on the market today.Comment

I've been using a computer 8 hours a day for the past 30+ years, and recently I've been having a problem where my index finger gets sore from clicking the button.
I thought a vertical mouse, where your finger lays naturally along the button, and a mouse click is more of a "squeeze", would help. I've tried a couple vertical mice, the the one in the link above (Anker) is my favorite. I also tried the JTech, but the Anker is more easily and precisely positioned. I actually like the shape of the JTech better, but the Anker navigates 10x better.Comment
