    Mouse alternatives. What's yours?

I'm sure if you're like me and have been working on computers for more than 20 years you've got some issues with your hands. I think my problem is with my mouse, and although I'm pretty good with keyboard shortcuts, I like using a mouse. I'm not a graphic designer, but a programmer / developer, and a mouse is really nice for code selection, cursor placement, using the mouse wheel to move up and down in code, etc.

I've seen the Wacom tablets, and see that some people use them as a mouse. If any of you have switched to a mouse alternative, or have suggestions, I'd appreciate it. If possible, please provide links, pictures, etc.

I use 2 options depending on what I feel that day .

    1) voice commands , real simple to use .
    2) gamers joystick , lots of options depending how many buttons it has .

I've been working with computers since 1978, and been using a mouse, since they were available. I've tried mouse replacements in the past. None work as well as a mouse, for what you're doing, or for general computing. I don't even like touch pads on laptops. Try using your mouse from an elevated platform, see if that doesn't help (shoulder height, with enough room to rest your arm on).

What's kind of working for me right now is switching hands. I'm right handed and using my mouse with my left hand. It's pretty goofy, but goofy if better than dealing with the mouse in my right hand. This issue has really cut my productivity in the last week or so, so I'm willing to try anything. Thanks for your suggestion.

You're welcome. I did this because I pinched a nerve in my neck, and this was the least uncomfortable way to use the mouse. Hope it works for you.

You can't beat a nice little wireless mouse. Like the other posters suggested, try switching hands to give your fingers a break, I've had to do that when my fingers get stiff and achy. Also, a mouse pad with a gel wrist rest can also help by elevating your hand and giving your fingers a better angle.

15 years and counting. Best "mouse" purchase I ever made.

Logitech trackman is what I use to give my wrists a break.
