I got my g/f a SANSA CLIP or something like that. I personally use the iRIVER volcano or whatever it is called. Only holds 2GB of data though.

What I like to do is to go to amazon.com and type a search for MP3 PLAYER and see what is popular, then maybe cross check those reviews with the reviews at NEWEGG or another online place.

I second the Sansa players. I have the clip 3x over (wife, kid and me). The capacity varies, starting at 2GB and has a MicroSD slot for more capacity. $60 - $90 range.
It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.

When I decided to get a new music player to replace an iPod nano 7 I did a lot of searching. Since the nano 7 I switched completely to bluetooth headphones and earbuds. I wanted a non iPod because I really don't like Apple's corporate BS.

I couldn't find a bluetooth unit comparable to the iPod for a better price. While still researching it my wife bought me a 5th gen iPod touch with 32gigs. I still like the nano's interface better but I have over 100 audiobooks on the touch and it works pretty good.

The bluetooth headphones are real nice now and worth looking into.

Sansa Clips rock. I've got one, and not only does it play well, it's got a good user interface, and battery life is very good. The other thing I like is that they play several formats, not just the proprietary Microsoft or Apple ones. I rip my CD's to Ogg Vorbis or FLAC, which are improvements over MP3 for fidelity, especially as you start compressing the file more. My Sansa Clip has 4GB in it, which is more than enough for all my music. They are available with up to 8GB. The FM radio reception is good, and the microphone actually works surprisingly well.

Another good choice would be the Sansa Fuze, which is basically a bigger Sansa Clip that also plays videos. Fuzes can take a 32GB micro-SD card if you want, which, naturally I did. Never know if I'm gonna wanna watch a movie while I'm on the treadmill. :-)
