How to keep Win 10 from auto-download?

Windows 10 wants to download and I've tried all that I know to stop it.

Unchecking the check box under Optional Update is futile. The download starts as soon as I boot up, etc. I have to cancel the update.

There are 19 other updates but those won't update until Win 10 does its thing.

Suggestions greatly appreciated. I did not ask or reserve W-10 either.

I have some older equipment that Win-10 will not run, etc. Don't want it now.

Added info: searched the web and found that Update KB3035583 "may" trigger the auto-download and in theory removing the update negates the load. I deleted the update, and shut down the PC and the other 19 updates loaded as they should at shut down. I was expecting W-10 to load too but it did not, however the KB3035583 is back and I assume that even with the box unchecked, it will load W-10 whether I want it or not.

Suggestions greatly appreciated. I did not ask or reserve W-10 either.

    Thanks.

    Kyle

Just do what I do. Every time the little window pops up and says anything about Windows 10, just close it and move on. You are correct that updates won't load without some of the Windows 10 B.S. but it cannot install without your permission.

That would be great, but I don't get a pop up window to deselect. The only deselect is in the "optional" area and it does not stay deselected. I wish I did.

So far I've deleted that KB3035583 twice. Interesting.

Thanks for your input Langss, truly appreciated, if you think of anything else, it's welcome.

I noticed that this wretched OS was trying to slip into my network at a business I am taking care of. I read up that by uninstalling that KB3035583 update it would go away and stop popping up, but that did nothing for the one computer I tried it on, so I figured that I would leave it alone. It seems the Winblows has beomce more and more like the democraps, it just wants to push its agenda despite the fact that you tell it NO repeatedly. I think it might take a forceful removing from office in order to get the point but then I would have no OS and since they are running software that needs Winblows, well... Of course we could certainly still remove the democraps from office and everything would actually get better...

Well, I've had suggestions from folks that get paid big bucks for their computer expertise such as rolling back to a previous date, to "dah, never heard of that".

Obviously "rolling back" just delays until the next weekly updates Tuesday/Wednesday and Friday.

Yeah, JAFGO, I deleted a couple of those but it seems that KB3035583 is the trigger. I deleted it a second time late last night but on reboot it shows up again. That also negates the "roll back" theory.

Machrono, I've look at that site and basically deleted/hid most of the updates manually. Not sure I want to run a random batch file at this point, but many thanks.

Brutmor, Fedora or an other operating system is not an option.

Really appreciate the feedback guys if you think or learn anything else please post it.

                Thanks all,
                Kyle

Stilly, as you have found deleting the zombie KB3035583 update is futile. Have you noticed that that update does not state what it relates to. Also in the Windows Update area under Optional Updates the "Upgrade to Windows 10" option does not have a KB number attached.

You can deselect that option all day long but as soon as you leave that page it is reselected again. I've been dealing with computers since the old Apple iic days ('83-'84) and have never encountered the likes of this although I use them as a tool and not erector sets.

If you learn of a remedy please let me know. Thanks.

                    Uninstall KB3035583

                    Reboot

Run windows update and 'check for updates'

KB3035583 will show up again as an optional update. Make sure it is deselected, then RIGHT CLICK it and choose 'hide update'

Worked fine on two of my home systems

Just download it. I'm sure anything Microsoft wants on your computer is good for you.

One thing is for sure. I followed Cid's advice and left auto updates turned off on my home system and any issues that I am having I am almost certain they are from hardware. I still hear that fan spin up and stop and make weird noises from time to time, but not like before. I do know that I have not let winblows update anything so my windows 7 is not reporting that stupid update nor is it bouncing around trying to get me to click on it. So it clearly is related to the updates. Maybe there is another update or a combination that needs to be installed in order for it to work and try to insert itself.

What I do not get is that why would they just let you download a new OS for free? Don't they like to charge you for all of that crap, or is the tradeoff being that if you install winblows 10 or 8.1 that they now have you in their claws and can monitor and data mine you a lot easier than before so it is worth giving it away for free? Gawd I hate companies that just assume that you want to be in bed with them like that...

Like when you buy something from a seller online now and that just gives them permission to send you newsletters every week telling you of all of the cool things they have on sale now... Hey that is great but I do not care to read 50 news letters telling me what you have on sale or not. It is a license to spam.

Those live tiles on windows 8 or 10 need to get quashed with a decent firewall like Netlimiter 2.x or something else that can lock down a system and only allow the traffic in or out that you tell it to.

Oh and in other news, I found Bacon on sale for $1.87/lb at Maxi foods... Good till the 19th.

I've probably have done that at least a dozen times, it's like a nasty relative, it keeps popping up.

I've uninstalled the update and deselected it, hid it and rebooted in various orders, including the order you mention. I think that order is one of the first attempts I read.

Thanks all for your suggestions, hopefully one will catch.

Stilly, was that a 16oz pound or the new improved 12oz pound? (No Maxi in my area)

Last time on another computer that I turned off the updates, I think ever installed program had a hissy fit and fell in it, including all the anti-virus/spam programs...but it is an option.

Just uninstall the updates, then services.msc to stop and disable windows update. Done.
