Stupid update for Samsung S5 ruined phone!

Is anyone else having a hard time with the new update? My phone was great, and then this update turned it into a POS instantly.
The inconvenience of poor quality lingers long after the thrill of a good bargain.

Might want to try backing up your phone - photos and contacts, then try a factory reset. I know they design these updates to be seamless and not lose data but it's a recipe for trouble. Especially when going through major upgrades, such as kit kat(4.4) to lollipop(5.0).

Same thing happened to my friends HTC one. Just got the lollipop update and was flawless before; crash machine now.

Not saying it's an end all be all solution, but after a factory reset you'll know if the update is fubard for sure rather than some weird conflict going on.

Factory reset is the way to go. Check out android forums, and you will see that all of the issues went away after the factory reset.

Also, some people report better performance if you disable Google+ and Facebook (use the web interface instead of the app). But, I didn't really notice a difference by disabling.

definitely run the factory reset. i actually trigger it remotely for my users as it takes them a bit long to find out how to do it themselves.

You could boot into recovery and clear the cache partition. I would do that first as it doesn't require you to completely reset the device. It's a bit of an advanced trouble shooting process, but I've had decent success with it over the years. Otherwise, hard reset should fix the issues.

I just did the update a couple days ago. I don't have any real ptoblems, but I don't like the few changes that I've noticed.

One reason to root as soon as a root is available for your device (not after an update?), and use CyanogenMod instead... if you have that option.

Not an option for most S5 owners, thank you Samsung Knox counter. All that is really available is rooting and you have to do that before you update to 5.0.

Anyways as a word of caution anyone updating DO NOT encrypt your phone, if you think it is slow now, its not and I envy you. My work requires us to carry a second phone(huge old blackberry) or encrypt our personal phone for email. I am considering going back to the blackberry.

One reason to research before you buy, but my phone didn't have any root when I bough it, but they found a "Fix" for root and the boot loader later.

                        Providers and MFRs screwed Android.

W/ a >$7000 bounty, I assume it will happen soon!

That knocks out most samsung phones now with that Knox junk, sadly Knox is something you have two choices about, deal with it, or destroy any warranty your phone ever had. Putting a custom ROM on my phone did not make my volume rocker fall out, but hey Verizon/ATT knows best.

This is just a Samsung thing. My wife, my brother in law and a buddy all had S3s that became useless after a major update that coincidentally hit right after the release of the S4, my sister in law's S4 nearly bricked on an update that, once again, coincidentally hit right after the S5 was released. If you own a Samsung, don't update once a new version of the device is released.

Of course, if you just always buy Nexus this isn't a problem.

Yeah it got a lot slower instantly. Looking into the factory reset now.
