So I guess my issue is the way it snaps back to the gentleman who said to shoot it more til comfortable ive put about 2 to 3k rounds. That being said I have been shooting a few other guns like my friend has a 40 s&w sub compact and I feel like I can shoot that and control better if that makes any sense

Practicing and getting used to what you have for now would be the best bet imo. Instead of dropping money on a new pistol you can spend it on ammo/classes to help you get more comfortable with what you have.

maybe you don't have Glock hands. Yes, a compact in .40 will be 'snappy' and considered one of the hardest to shoot well.

try other guns at LGS for grip feel. rent and shoot a couple with non-Glock grips like XD or even 1911

maybe a big steel Beretta 92 in 9mm

for HD, if you want a gun that is NICE to shoot, consider a Ruger GP100 with big rubber grip in 6" shooting mild 38sp loads, or even a DA in 22lr or 22mag.
Am I a good shot!?!, YEAH I'M A GOOD SHOT!....i just got bad aim

              A 4" 357 mag revolver. Ruger or S&W.

Sig P229 in 357 Sig. If it's good enough to protect the President of the United States of America, it's good enough to protect my family. The recoil isn't bad at all and the power is pretty impressive. It'll blow up a squirrel from about 20 feet with the right ammo.

The "snapping back" is the recoil. The recoil comes from the weight of the firearm, and the rest to a lesser degree from the power of the cartridge.

The heavier the gun, the less recoil you get. The more impulse (power) from the cartridge, the more recoil you get.

The Glock you have is a compact model with a a polymer frame. This makes it very lightweight. Lightweight means more recoil. Additionally, the .40 S&W cartridge is a high velocity cartridge. This also means more recoil. Maybe try either a heavier gun, or a cartridge with a lesser recoil impulse.

You could also find a firearms class where they allow you to try a variety of guns to see what fits your hands the best.

                    "Good protection handgun"

                    1. The one you have on you when you need it.
                    2. The one you can safely and effectively shoot accurately, whether it's a .22LR, 9mm, .45, whatever caliber.
                    3. Refer back to #1.

It's different for everyone. I'd trust anyone of my guns to protect my life.
For awhile an M&P9 was bedside, now it's my XD45 with a tlr3.

                        try a .357 Stainless with a 3 inch barrel

fun, cheap to shoot at the range with .38's......more fun with .357's

easy to clean, learn to clean

dead reliable in an emergency/high stress home defense situation, good learning gun for the little woman ( if there is one) or any new shooter with low recoil .38's......

good size if you have to walk out of there with it when the Big One hits etc

extremely durable ( Ruger or S&W)

                        reasonable price

since its extremely unlikely you will ever ever use it except at the range, a good choice because of all the above

                          A full size revolver or semi-auto. A .38/.357 in revolver or a 9mm or .45acp in Semi-Auto.

Compact guns are designed to be carried and concealed. They are not as fun or as easy to shoot as a full size gun. Personally, I think .40 S&W is my least favorite caliber. As others have said, it can be 'snappy'. I find .380, 9mm, and .45acp are all much more pleasant to shoot.

IMHO, a person should always buy a full size gun if they are not going to carry it or conceal it.

                          Good luck.

If you don't like the way a Glock feels, try a CZ. I prefer how my 1911 feels over my Glock, but keep the Glock as an HD gun.

Look into a Smith and Wesson revolver.
