No not legit... suicides!!!!, people renting guns having no idea how to use em. loaded weapons flagging me quite often due to uneducated firearms users. After all the weird and life threatening encounters i have seen there i will just never go again. After that women off'ed herself there plus the other guy that killed himself there i will never ever go there or recommend it to anyone i care for.

Absolutely the scariest and most dangerous place to go shooting I have ever had the mispleasure to go to: IronSights of Oceanside.

Cant find an article on the sad story of the woman who committed suicide there.

But heres an article about the dude. http://www.osidenews.com/2014/10/08/...anside-update/

I hate ranges that rent out guns. way way too risky living in a place like california with so many lunatics running around. Its sad i have to think this way. Ill keep to my BLM shoots and my prefered outdoor ranges.

Slapping an upper onto a lower is not "building" an AR-15.

What part of "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED" do you illiterate pawns not understand!?

Iron Sites isn't so bad if you like wobbly targets, smoke filled rooms and brain stains on the ceilings. Weekday mornings seem to have fewer muzzle sweepers than on the weekends.

I'll be there, and I hope to bring other like minded neighbors. Several wrote emails/letters after I alerted them to the situation at hand, but getting them to commit to an evening meeting after work with families, not as easy. But I will pester them next week.

IF the opportunity presents itself, and it seems like the right thing to do at the time as the meeting unwinds, I might be willing to speak as well. Just something short and sweet.

Being there in support is the most important step for this meeting that each of us can contribute I believe. A good turnout would be awesome just to send some kind of message to them. At the same time, it is not the time and place for us all to show up wearing Crye Precision G3 Combat Pants, "Don't Tread On Me" baseball hats and snug fitting digi-camo combat shirts with morale patches all over it. There is a certain level of necessary gamesmanship that needs to be played; and playing into certain stereotyped assumptions they will have about "us" should be avoided IMHO. Just my .02 cents.

              Just some advice....
This is a support thread for Gunther Guns, and the positives things that go with a gun range.
It is not productive to the discussion to crap on another gun range.

I also feel compelled to point out that Iron sights is the only range currently operating nearby.
The are also the only ones that hold regular matches on Thursdays and Sundays.
They also provide a pretty decent selection of rental stuff before you spend money to buy one.

My advice is to visit the range when there are very few people there.
I'm usually there after 9pm and have it all to myself.

Personally, your paranoia is pretty much unfounded, and your complaining about suicides/gun rentals
to bolster your anti-iron sights rant does absolutely nothing to help Gunther Guns in accomplishing their goal.

And I will be at the meeting.

              .

                Agreed...

let's stay on topic here guys. This is NOT the place for Iron sights off topic chit chat. Take that up in another off topic thread.

This thread has a goal, let's stick to it - so please enough with Iron sights.

Got this email from Gunther today:

                  Dear Friend of Gunther Guns:

                  We need your help!

As you may know, we hope to open and operate a high-quality indoor shooting range in our building at 2717 Loker Avenue West in Carlsbad. The city staff has denied our request, stating that a shooting range is not a recreational use and that lead is a health issue while at the same time allowing city employees to use lead ammunition at the Carlsbad Training Center. We strongly disagree with their opinion that shooting is not a recreational use. Over 40 million Americans are recreational shooters. Carlsbad has already approved and operates a shooting range that uses lead ammunition for its employees. We are of course willing to duplicate all safety measures currently being used by the Carlsbad Training Center at our proposed shooting range.

Will you please help us get approval for an indoor recreational shooting range? Would you do the following:

                  1) Send an email to the Carlsbad Planning Commission and

                  2) Attend the Planning Commission meeting and

                  3) Perhaps even speak in support?

If you would like to write a letter or send an email, we have attached a sample for you. Please feel free to personalize it.

                  Please send letters to:

Carlsbad Planning Commission c/o City Clerk
                  1200 Carlsbad Village Drive
                  Carlsbad, CA 92008
Please send emails to Carlsbad Planning Commission c/o City Clerk at:

                  clerk@carlsbadca.gov

If you can attend the 6 p.m. Planning Commission meeting on February 18, 2015 (and we hope you will!) at City Hall, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive, Carlsbad, please let us know. Call or text Lisa Gunther at 760-390-4556 or email her at lisa@guntherguns.com
I'll be there, and will speak as a local business owner. Also going to try to get a couple of the commission members on the phone personally tomorrow and/or Monday. Hoping to recruit a couple other local business owners to attend and speak.

Please email me if you are coming to the Feb 18 hearing at City Hall - we need a big turnout to get the shooting range! My email is lisa@guntherguns.com. A shooting range IS a recreational use. Please turnout to the hearing to help us convince the Planning Commissioners of this truth. Thank u! We need your support.

The Planning Department themselves told us that a shooting range would be classified as a recreational use in the industrial zone (this was back in 2013 when we told them that our project will be heading their way after the November 2014 City election). Then, in December 2014, they said it is NOT a recreational use. That is why we are now appealing their decision and have a meeting before the Planning Commissioners on Feb 18. Please be there to hold city government accountable for upholding their own municipal code. Recreational uses ARE allowed in the zone and that's what they saw our project as... and then they flip flopped.

The most important thing you can do is show up at our public hearing on February 18, 2015 at City Hall at 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive at 6:00 pm to show your support. Please show up 30-45 minutes early to make sure you have a seat.

This isn't a fight about the 2nd Amendment. It's about the city upholding their own municipal code and allowing another recreational use in the industrial zone.

Please be so kind as to "share" this post with your like minded friends. We need your help. Thank you in advance! We cannot do it without you. We need to prove to the Commissioners that gun owners look like them, dress like them, live in Carlsbad, work in Carlsbad, and are upstanding citizens. We've all passed background checks after all. Have they? We are not scary. We are regular people that just happen to own guns and who also enjoy going to shooting ranges for recreation. I hope to see you Wednesday night. -Lisa

"This isn't a fight about the 2nd Amendment."

So true, and this is one thing we need to be careful of - not to turn this into an ugly off topic brawl about infringement on the 2A and guns rights, nationwide politics and all of that. There is 1 local goal here and 1 goal only, get them to reverse their decision back to their 2013 stance and accept the position that this use is clearly - recreational. Just like the other recreational use items many of us don't use, but appreciate that others do and want to see them enjoy their recreational pastimes. We would appreciate the same consideration and the fact this safe recreation involves "guns" does not, by nature, make it any less reasonable to make room for than say one for "kids", "dogs", "soccer" or "swimming".

Anyone interested in speaking can email me at lisa@guntherguns.com.
Carlsbad residents and business owners are ideal speakers. At City Hall, they usually don't want to hear from non-Carlsbad people. I do have a public affairs consultant that can help with crafting a short speech.

IF the time seems right & it feels like the right thing, I will likely speak. But I can/will craft my own words as I want it to be authentic and real from me. Likely a version of the letter I wrote.

I'm a Carlsbad resident. Gathering a bunch of neighbors to attend and will bring some of my children (who love to shoot recreationally).
