Hey guys, please make an effort to see the commissioners one-on-one before the meeting. Usually the vote is already known before the meeting even starts, and public comments have little or no effect.

Can you ask him if he has any advice on the most effective methods of putting pressure on the other committee members? Also, does he have additional committee members' names we should be writing to and calling to voice our support for Gunther's?Wish I was rich instead of so damn good looking.Originally posted by stix213I'll worry about Hannibal Lecter having too many rights when the rest of us get ours in the first place.Originally posted by Just DaveAny American who isn't on a government watch list should be ashamed of themselves.Comment

I've been there (Gunters) more then once and I consider the city of Carlsbad a bunch of F*@ks. They have been pooh pooping this place since jump along with other things. There police are racist, dislike gun owners and are a city of snobs. Im going to support this range just to freaking spite them. I know I went on a rant but the city really sucks IMO.The liberal see's the glass as half full and tries to take more.
The conservative see's glass as half empty and tries to keep it that way.
I'm with the people on the side just pouring water in the glass trying to get a drink!Comment

I'd like to see it happen but gotta say good luck. I've been around here for a long time, N county SD is about as stuck up, clickish, "good ol boy" as it gets. Think local SD govt. lives in the "hood" think again. It's all about the N. SD coast & their peace & quiet. Ever hear about the Coastal Commission? Make no mistake, I'm as pro-gun as they get. But I'm also a native San Diegan. Far as I'm concerned, they can replace every Starbucks with a Range, ain't gonna happen In N. SD beach areas.Last edited by SB1964; 01-25-2015, 8:24 PM.Yes I took the pic, no I didn't go swimming!Comment

The beautiful, enlightened people of Carlsbad went on a rampage over the noise and grief coming from live music venues some years ago. Never underestimate the influence of self-absorbed middle class and rich people.
It's all about them, and they were never taught to mind their own business.
I wouldn't bet on the new range."Self defense is not a fashion show. A defensive handgun is not a little black dress, or a purse."
Remember, the overwhelming majority of anti-gun thinkers are not stupid enough to be "afraid of guns." They are afraid of stupid/immature/crazy psycho people with guns.
And as always, being friendly, courteous, and respectful is the easiest way to bend people to your will.Comment

We'll be giving it our best shot!
We will try our darndest to open a range here in Carlsbad.
It took us over a year and a half to get our gun store open and we know it will be a tough battle. Nothing that is worth it is ever easy!
We can do it with the support of the people that would like to use it.
Please check out www.guntherguns.com for the whole story.
Support letters help immensely and showing up at the public hearing means even more.
Thank you!

Something has happened to Carlsbad since my distance youth, when it was associated exclusively with Marines and pawn shops.Originally posted by cockedandglockedGetting called a DOJ shill has become a rite of passage around here. I will talk to him tonight and see what he thinks. I am sure writing letters, emails, and phone calls are extremely effective. The planning commission needs to understand that people want them there and there is a real demand for it.1200 Carlsbad Village Drive

I just texted him and am waiting for a response back. I know he is pumped at the thought of a range just up the street, so he will help in any way he can I am sure.Comment

I know these people well, I have spent a fair amount of time in their shop, conducted a lot of business with them, had contact with Lisa before they even opened based on some local newspaper articles, and have contact with them today. Lisa and Gregg, they are the people to get this done - and get it done right and legit and proper - IF anyone can here in Carlsbad. The issue is the resistance from a select few in the community that have made it hard on them from day 1, and of course, the resistance in local government based solely on a conceptual knee-jerk reaction of what they assume approving a facility like this means.
So, visit their site, send others you know that are not CalGuns locals to their site, use their form letters. I personally suggest people start with the form letters if you are unsure what to say and then tailor it to be your own. I think it is really important to stress "safety" in your letters. "Safe recreational indoor shooting" facility as it is safe and I think their form letters leave out that key word. I sprinkled it throughout my letter.
So spread the word people - send out their web address to those you know and just ask them, at a very minimum, send a letter. This, just like them opening their shop, is bigger than just the shop. Bigger than just an indoor gun range. Getting a change in our political officials mentality is key. Letting them see it is not a scary indoor gun range but a safe recreational pastime for many is critical. Be cool, be polite, be clear and make your points.
And if you can come to the hearing, let us all try to be presentable and respectful in tone and appearance. I hate having to say this, but it is true and it is just life; they will and do see "us" with a certain expectation already predetermined. How we will look, how we will act, etc. Let's try to turn that expectation upside down and show them, we are people no different than they are. And to that end, we need to keep it professional and positive and not let it degrade into an ugly scenario that, in their minds, proves them right about the type of people they assume we are.
It's a long shot here with the city of Carlsbad, but look what Lisa and Gregg achieved already with their shop. So, I think this is possible and if it is possible, like I said earlier, it becomes something much bigger with greater momentum than just us getting a safe indoor recreational shooting facility. So look at the effort and time you spend on this as something that benefits more than just our community and our individual desire to have a place to shoot near us, because it can and does have further reaching benefits outside of just that short term goal.10 +1 in the chamberComment

Still waiting to hear back from him. I guess he was working late last night.
But definitely emphasis on safety!
He did mention last time I was talking to him that he thought that most voted no because they don't understand. They have the "guns are scary" mentality. If we can show them that the responsible, law abiding citizens are the ones who want this, it will make a difference.
Especially if you live there in Carlsbad, get everyone you know that lives there to send in letters and call, making sure that the commission knows it is their neighbors pushing for this.Comment
