Basspro Manteca CA grand opening this Wed

Local paper says it is Wed Oct 15th 6pm with "special hunting and fishing celebrities".

This link only says the store will open on Thursday Oct 16th.

Based on a quick search of calguns it appears Basspro may not be the most popular place to buy things, but I'll go check them out to see what they have. Supposedly there will be a big sale during the first week (read that somewhere).

Manteca seems to be making a big deal out of this. They changed there cities slogan to "Hook, Wine, and Sneakers" LOL

    So who's going?

I must say Bass Pro has a fairly big set of OO opening up a new store in this financial climate. I will be interested to see if this location survives.

Well I know a few of the local gun stores, and one particular fishing store in town that are not altogether happy with the competition. They'll have to adjust their strategy if they want to stick around.

We had a Basspro manager come down to the club for one of our meetings. He discussed the indoor archery range, the conference rooms, the hunter safety classes, CCW classes (which brought a chuckle to the room), and working with the Manteca Sportsmen with promotions.

They're going to have to adjust their reloading inventory in a few months but we'll see how they do with stocking firearms. (shrug) Maybe I'll post pics.

They're also happy to host FNRA dinners (a big tent in the parking lot) and may very well donate a few large items once they are established.

I'm looking forward to getting lost in that store once it opens. "Honey, I'll be right back with the groceries."

Well, when they made a commitment to the location several years ago, the financial climate was a LOT different. Construction started months ago... well before the market meltdown.

I drive by that site every couple of weeks and I can't believe how freakin' HUGE the store is. They have a fund raising event on the evening of the 15th I believe, and then the official opening on the 16th. Probably will wait for the buzz to die down some before I go, but will definitely be checking it out. (unless they have some interesting first week sales advertised!)

In our paper today it said they have an indoor shooting range in addition to the archery range and a 40,000 gallon aquarium. From the photo, it looked like a carnival shooting setup. Will be interesting to see what they carry.

Did not get the impression from the other posts on this site they had great prices or the best service but (obviously) have never been to this Basspro.

They do have a "Heater Buddy" for $79 and that has been on my shopping list for a while. It was very cold this weekend in the mountains.

When you walk in and are amazed at all the stuffed animals and scenery, remember you are paying for it when you pay there outargues prices. At least you guys up north don't have to worry about them hiring a bunch of crappy turners employees to run the gun counter

+1 on the prices. used to live in denver and we had one there and it was pretty cool. The prices were high but people still bought. I wish the one in manteca was going to have their resterant in it, because I could go for some venison stuffed mushrooms right now

There is nothing like this store around here. Sure the prices may be a little higher, but the ah factor will get the sales. You can walk in and buy it. There are a few bait stores around for fishing gear, and Big 5 for some camping gear. But I have a feeling they are going to get blown out of the water with this being here.

The girl that ran the counter for the Manteca Sportsmen is one of the new hires for the firearm section. We'll miss her. She's pleasant, fun, and knowledgeable. Not to mention quite a trap shooter.

Bass Pro's prices for guns are usually MSRP, so don't expect any bargains. As far as wiping out the competition, Big 5 will still be there a year from now. They have "stick and ball" sporting goods that BP doesn't deal with. I imagine the other locals will still be there too.

Yeah I do but my response was in a playful manner. Hence the wink
I was assuming you were just talking smack on all of us. Theres like three or four of us... in the whole company... thats alright!
But really. Basspro is full of retards here and the Turners employees that worked on the gun counter were mostly our fired tackle staff. Least around the opening thats what it was. I had an interview there and got hired but two days before I had to show up I called and declined the job because I didnt feel like driving all the way out to rancho for fifty cents more and no discount on ammo. WTF!
Least today is my day off and I dont have to deal with any co-workers theres this one cat that if I had a time machine and thirty bucks I would pay for his abortion
I would rather spend the extra gas and run up to Ades or any place that has cool OLLs on display than basspro
