I know this isn't accurate. I believe the 1975 covered handguns, not long guns.

if it was cash and carry before 1991, how was there a waiting period on handguns?
(did you just walk in to dealer and say "hello tom, i'll be leaving my handgun model "XYZ" and ill pick it up in X Days"?)

Waiting period is when you bought/transferred from a CA FFL dealer.

No waiting period when you bought from a non-FFL.

          Yep^^^

Back then I bought several guns from the 'Green Sheet' called the Recycler (?) up in the San Fernando Valley. Later they banned gun advertising.

The gun show was cancelled by the democrats running county politics. The state legislation was all democratic legislation and may have been signed by the RINOs in office but it was presented by the democrats and if Reagan was still the governor he would have seen how the new laws were crap and fixed the problem. He at least did listen to common reason, unlike any of the democrats.

Not a problem you can sell/transfer by new laws. They wern't required to be registered so there is no "paperwork" on them. After the gun control act of 1968 the 4473 (?) form came into effect for sales by dealers. There also was no wait from a dealer/private person it was cash & carry. The only down side is if your gun shows up as stolen you'll lose it.

Ahhhhhh you young ones! California used to be a normal place, before all of the libs started to change things. That's one of the things the newer folks to firearms don't seem to understand, it was not always the way it is now.
Horse trading cash and carry was a norm. Rifles were sold at JCpennys, Sears, heck even the auto store. You could buy rifles from a catalog just like your clothes. At the shooting galleries you handed the guy a quarter and he handed you a loaded .22, and I NEVER remember a shooting there. Ahhhh the days!

Yup, the way Arizona is right now. If you're ever in Phoenix on a weekend, pick up the Sunday classifieds. Full of gun ads.

My first firearm purchase was in 1963. 13 yrs old. Stopped by the Paramount Swap Meet on the way home from my Sunday paper route. Bought a single shot 12 ga Hopkins-Allen for $5.

Rode home with it across the handlebars of my bicycle.

                        Try that today.

And just like people in AZ now, back then we couldn't imagine CA ever turning into the place it has. As will other states if they aren't vigilant.
