Did Ca ever have FTF, no ffl?

How were handgun purchases done in the 70's-90's?
if a handgun/revolver was bought during this time from one person to another (used), did they have to go through an ffl or was it just a FTF, no paperwork transfer?

Im asking because im curious as to how purchases were done before all the current laws we have now.

Wish i was born a longer time ago! so many missed deals!

1991 was when we had to DROS all sales -

Up until then the horse trading business was great!

Some gun stores would even host swap meets in their parking lots or empty lots behind the store.

I bought and sold a bunch of guns and other related 'stuff' back in those days.

All this was before 1979 when I left California.
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

          Gun store Swap meet!
          One can only imagine now.....

so if someone has a handgun/ revolver they bought ftf from someone else before 1991, how would the process be if they were to sell it or pass on to family member today?

(normal ppt or if family transfer, just fill Intra-Familial Firearm Transaction form?)

I was active duty military in 85 and assigned outside of California. I traded and sold guns I bought out of state in California. I remember exchanging handwritten and signed relinquish notes just to cover my arse. Life was easy back then. Gas and pack of smokes were less than $1. 50 round box of 9mm for $7. A Big Mac meal was less than $3.

Cash and carry at gun shows, bars, the hardware store, etc.
"I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them."

Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars.

The recycler used to have at least a hundred firearms a week listed. Cash and carry. I have a bunch from then.

Transfers need to be done based on the law in effect at the time of the transfer. So you follow whatever is applicable to your case. (Family or PPT)

That was before the internet was used much.....used to source a lot of used guns from the OC Register classifieds and the Recycler.

I still have a couple things that I bought that way back then. One was even bought from a Sheriff's deputy FTF at the police range. Didn't know that that level of awesome would be removed by the state busybodies.

We seriously need to reduce the number of acronyms we use. The first thing I saw when I glanced the title of the thread was "Failure to Feed." Of course, once I processed the title, the context made sense.
