Thank you for sharing the details. I know your mad and upset and we all appreciate it. Sorry for your loss of property and feeling violated. It's sucks. It does sound like someone who knew what you had and wanted it.

Sorry you got hit, I hate thieves. Was this GunVault the safe you said you had bolted to the floor?OK, you guys have a point. GunVault, with the four buttons on the top, one per finger. He hit the button area with just a regular hammer. The metal of the rest of the safe doesn't extend to the area under the buttons. It's a separate piece of metal, apparently not so strong, and that's where the locking mechanism is. Boom done. It was even my hammer.
I guess burgled. I thought they were synonyms.Comment

Do you work a 9-5 type job where someone could study your schedule?
Do your neighbors know about your guns?
Who do you talk about guns with, who also know or could find out where you live?
Do you have a facebook with gun manufacturer 'likes' or 2A shares?
A lot of times it's a friend of a friend. Someone whom your shooting buddies talk to and tell about your sweet stash of Rugers and Glock 21's.Comment

Sorry to hear that! It sucks and is a violation of your person.
Sounds like a acquaintance or someone that over heard you talk about owning a firearm. "Clue" they had to search for where the gun was kept. So probably not someone that has been in your house.
As many of us hear will say, get a bigger stand up safe that you can "BOLT" to the floor. If they can't lay it down on it's back, it's going to take hours and a lot of pounding to get one open.
Good luck.?Comment

Yes, bolted to the floor.
I don't have any gun-related Facebook or other social media activity. I'm careful about that. No range pictures. No Ruger likes. No Twitter announcements. No gun range "check-ins".
I keep it quiet except for family and 4 friends.
One has kids. Maybe they told one of the kids and the kid blabbed.
I used to have a roommate who ended up in rehab who could have blabbed.
I just noticed that I keep all my used targets in a closet near the door that was broken into. That closet was open. Maybe they saw the targets first, got the hint, and *then* just looked for guns.
Anyway, my dog is OK. I'm sleeping with a dog nose in my armpit tonight, so all is good. Thanks for the support.Comment

Sorry OP.
The information or you having firearms could have been gleaned from a number of resources or tells.
Besides what you mentioned....
People talk. Maybe a brother or significant other mentioned they went shooting with you or your 2A. Maybe a neighbor or the punk stoner kid
next door has been watching and spotted a rifle case or range bag go into the car or back inside and knows your work (home/away schedule).
Have you had UPS drop off ammo or boxes from sporting goods type online stores? New or holiday season drivers spot and report address down the chain to a break in crew.
I'm just hitting a few points off the top of my head.
I always load and unload in the dark.
Again sorry for the loss and hope the POS gets caught.

I don't know what model you have but I looked at their larger safe and it was 14 gauge body with a 12 gauge door. I could see why it was opened so easily. Sorry for your losses. Report to the police, contact your homeowners company and check into the burglary warranty that one of the posters talked about.
