Haven't looked it up but I've never seen a place that will sell it to civilians unless its being shipped to an active duty service member outside of ebay, and the stuff on ebay is stuff people take with them when they leave the military.

I've never seen any place that will sell it to anyone without military id or active duty orders and an fpo/apo of the person its going to.

That's only because a lot of the manufacturers stipulate that the distributors must only sell their products to mil/LEO in order to keep their wholesale pricing.

Some distributors restrict, others don't. www.bulletproofme.com is pretty non restrictive, for instance. Blackhawk goes the other way and is VERY restrictive in who they'll sell to. It's just how folks choose to do business, and whether or not they're willing to have a name as a company that'll sell to just anyone.

anyways just to give you guys an idea.. i'm using a PACA with paraclete balcs cut inserts level 3A.. it's not that heavy really when you wear it.

My $0.02,

It's all about mindset. If you shoot for recreational purposes, then a vest might not be for you. Chances are you will never be in a situation where the vest and/or plates are going to be required.

But if you shoot because you see yourself in a situation in which rounds have the right of way, then train as you fight. There is nothing as fun as finding out that your vest, the plates, the neck guard and your helmet do not want to play together on the prone.

If you are in SoCal and want to try this out, I have a couple of vests and Mitch or Kevlar helmets you can borrow. I have woodland, ACU, Multicam and black setups. You can even take pictures and call it a day. You can even try and shoot with goggles for extra Tacticool point. But you have to put up with the giggles from other shooters who are too cool for school.

Often times I've found myself shooting a lane or two over from some real genuine idiots who appear to be showing off to their friends or girlfriend and I find myself thinking about how having some body armor with me would make me a little less uneasy. Would be a good investment for HD as well.

Always. I've looked down the muzzle of a firearm being manipulated by an incompetent shooter more times at public ranges than I care to remember.

Do most members wear body armor while in the shooting range? i'm just curious if there's lot out there wearing some sort of protection from accidental discharges or freak accidents.

I always wear PACA concealed vest when go to the shooting range. hey, it's my *** we are talking here and i better go protected than be sorry later that is if i'm not dead..

haha good luck. it better be something higher then a level 2 cuz more and more people are shooting 5-7's as well as other rifles converted to handguns which will slice thru that little vest like butter!

i actually have level 3A and level 4.. so i will be safe for now unless you will throw an IED in my pathway to the range..

I just recommend level 3A to anyone who's looking. It's what I wear.

If I am not mistaken, 5.7x28mm civilian loads out of the handgun will not penetrate a normal level 3A concealable vest, but I think you're right about level 2.

I wear a level IIIA now. After the last panoche shoot with a big group. I had AK rounds and copper jackets flying back at me and my brother because someone was shooting a metal plate 50 yards away. When I got home I had an itch in my lower leg. I had a piece if jacket stuck in my leg. I was shooting off of a backpack that had my jacket and sapi plates in there within a carrier. That had a round in my jacket and some copper jacket stuck in the carrier. If my gear wouldnt have been there in front of me I would have been hurt for sure. Along with several guys walking out to change there targets while everyone was shooting did it for me. I am not sure I will ever go to another panoche shoot. And I helped put together one of the first gathering. You just never know what someone is going to do around you. Thats all I have to say about that, LOL

Stories like that make me want to hurry up and get full body armor, not just the vitals!
