How young is too young?

How about a 3 year old? Too young?

I believe in to each his own, having said that, I started jr much younger than that. The only down side was he couldn't crawl around on his own and I had to carry the little booger for a couple of days.

Oh, whatever young age you decide upon, be sure to use hearing protection...jr is a teenager now and he is sometimes hard of hearing.

Well I think some of his posts violate the rules or at least come very close. He has advocated drinking and shooting, brandishing, carrying concealed without a license and shooting in the air to name a few.

It is very possible to be uninformed (or pretend to be) even to the point of criminal negligence without being abusive.

Age is not the defining factor in my opinion. The child must be physically able to handle the weapon and understand it. I certainly would not start with a .45! My personal history: Grew up with several guns around the house and had shot a number of .22 and small caliber rifles. I was about 7 or 8 when we were with some friends in the Barton Flats area and had a chance to shoot a .45. The recoil from that thing in my small hands and arms was insane for an 8 year old. I would not have anything to do with a .45 for over 30 years because of that one experience. If they have never shot previously you could turn them off forever and even begin the development of an anti-gun person.
