With all due respect, if you have to ask if a 3yo is too young for a Glock .45 you are too immature to supervise a child with a firearm.

As to what age a child should be introduced to firearms, that's between you and your kid. If it's not your kid, it's not your decision.

And as others have said, there is no blanket answer. Some kids are laser focused at age 5 and others are just spastic little poodles until they are 15.

I'd say 3 is even too young for a .22 pistol. No way they can handle a .45 and it will prob scare them away from guns.

This has to be a troll thread. OP, do you think you could have safely handled a pistol at 3? Let alone shoot a .45?!

This sounds like a CPS intervention waiting to happen. If I owned a range and you showed up trying to have a 3 yo shoot a .45, I would tell you to leave and go kill yourself.

I plan on getting my daughter behind an airsoft rifle at age 4, help her plink cans in the backyard.

At about age 6 we'll give her the single shot cricket that is youth size. Maybe sooner if she progresses quickly. This will all be under supervision of course.

As for right now she is almost 3 and she has a bubble gun, foam pistol and a wood rubber band rifle we got at the fair.

Everytime she picks one up I tell her finger off the trigger. When we are in public and she is using her bubble gun I tell her finger straight when she is not using it. This has got a few chuckles out of people who understand and overhear.

She now does it mostly on her own, walks around with a foam pistol finger straight all the time.

Start them young, teach them young and even if it's a toy teach them correctly. That way when they do start with your 22 it's natural to them.

No. Not at all. After receiving several responses as to the inappropriateness of having a young child shoot a .45 handgun his next question is "How about a 12 gauge shotgun". He's either an immature troll here for attention or an incompetent fool who should never be in proximity to a firearm let alone own one...or potentially both. Based on his previous posts I would attempt to have the OP arrested for child endangerment if I saw him handing a firearm to anyone under the age of 18.

Even for you, this is utterly ridiculous.

(Unless the 3 year old is in a pinch, and needs to unleash the man cannon to fire some shots in the air)

                          +1.

If the OP can't make a judgement call on that one I'd question his ability as a responsible gun owner.

I'd urge the OP NOT to try and teach anyone to handle or shoot firearms.

                          Too dangerous man.

Agreed...perhaps while being the boss out on the front yard, impressing houseguests and drinking whiskey in a lawn chair.
