Terrible Experience at Parallax Tactical (SD)

Here is a quick summary of my terrible experience with the folks at Parallax Tactical. None of these statements are exaggerated.

I picked up a Mossberg 590, and a set of Mossberg ghost ring sights. As part of the install, a gunsmith needs to silver solder the front sight onto the barrel.
I went to Parallax Tactical, and after waiting for about 20 minutes for the gentleman behind the counter to notice me, was quoted $60 for them to silver solder the front sight.
Pretty pricey, but I wanted it done. I payed by credit card.

Two weeks later, I come to pick it up, only to find that they had used an epoxy to glue the sight on (they did not care to ask me). Because this was not the work I had paid for, I requested a refund and received $20 in store credit.

Then, after taking the 590 to the range, the front sight FELL OFF after about 20 rounds. The dumb***** that installed the sight only put epoxy on the perimeter of the post, leaving a very thin and delicate bond to the barrel.

Needless to say, I immediately returned to Parallax to have them rectify the situation. They said they would actually solder it on this time, with a maximum waiting time of three weeks.

About 3.5 weeks later, I go to parallax to get my gun. Needless to say, nobody soldered the sight, or even cared to clean off any of the epoxy residue.

Having totally lost all faith in the business in terms of professionalism and quality, I got a refund of $51 (I bought a box of very overpriced shells and a sling swivel with store credit) and left.

There is absolutely no way that I will be returning to Parallax Tactical for any reason. Just a warning to all of my fellow Calgunners out there. If you've been there, how have your experiences been?

That sounds like a terrible experience... I would be pretty irate if that happened to me. Personally I would have expected a full refund for labor.

If you've been there, how have your experiences been?

I've been doing business with them for the past 3-4 years (since they were at their old location) and never had a major problem or incident.

They do quote me some of the lowest new gun prices I have found in San Diego, and not just for EBR stuff.

I've have had a few ARs built there as well and never an issue with service or quality.

That said, I haven't actually bought anything from them in the past 6-8 months, I really hope they haven't started going down hill.

Never had a problem. Joe has always gone out of his way for me personally. I only deal with him directly. Been doing business with him for the last 3 years.

Been there so many times, they know me by first name. I always had great experience with them. Talk to the owner/manager, he will fix the problem.

Third report of ****ty gunsmithing coming from them over the years...it's hard to find a good gunsmith, both as a customer and a shop owner I'd imagine.

damn!, I've been to that place twice, its a little hole in the wall. very busy but attentive to customers. i was thinking of getting one of their rails but its not the first time hearing of this kind of service from them . kind of discouraging.

There getting a bit famous for there rails. They have blown up since the beginning. Now there in covers of magazines.

Everything the poster said is true. We screwed the pooch. We did order the solder to redo it as the poster requested however for some reason or another, Brownells canceled the order without notifying us. I thought it was on the way but it wasn't. Needless to say it wasn't handled the way we would of liked. I did speak to the armorer who installed the epoxy originally and we did offer to redo it and refund the money paid but the OP wanted it silver soldered, so I ordered it as requested. So in summary, we deserve the feedback 100%. We are sorry.

No matter what the shop, mistakes get made and crap happens.

What would matter to me more if I were the OP would be good follow-up and fix by the shop.

The shop's reply is candid...no BS...and indicates the shop wants to do what is right to please the customer.

I'm non in SD but if I were PT would get my business.

Well everybody has the occasional hiccup, but few will own up to it as completely and honestly as Parallax just did right there!
