You could "lose" your licence and pay for a new one. The dmv has been pretty quick with my last two licences.

      Yeah, makes gun buying fun.

      I love California.

      Per the CA DMV website:

How to notify DMV when I change my address
Law states that you must notify DMV within 10 days of changing your address. There is no charge to change your address, and you may notify DMV by any of the following ways:
Complete your change of address online.
Call any DMV office at 1 (800) 777-0133 and request that a change of address form be mailed to you. It will take 5 days for you to receive it. Complete the information required on the form, then mail it to the address listed at the top of the form.
Download the Change of Address form DMV 14, complete the information, and mail it to the address listed at the top of the form.
Visit any DMV office, complete a change of address form, and give it to a technician. The technician will give you a Change of Address Certificate card (DL 43) to complete and carry with your license.
If you do 2 or 3 above, type or write in ink your new address on a small piece of paper, sign and date it. Carry this piece of paper with your license. Do not tape or staple the change of address information to your driver license.
They won't automatically give you a new license, but you can get one with the correct address. All you need to do is pay the fee for a duplicate license after you submit the change of address form. It's $27 and now you have a license with the correct address. If you're going to be buying guns in CA, this is the best way to go. Then you don't need the add'l "proof of residence" stuff.

I've been thinking about doing this. Do they take a new photo, or just use the old one? My current photo is so old it doesn't even look like me.

To the OP...it's on you not to have your forms with you when you go to purchase. If you know that your ID has the wrong address, then you should just take what you need if you're going to buy a gun. I'm guessing you screwed the seller out of his time and gas money also, because you didn't know the policy at the store.

They take a new photo and thumb print. That's why you have to pay them $27! Isn't our government great. $27 for a new id card, $25 for a background check....

Really, it's your fault for not getting "all [your] sh*t together".

You wasted the sellers time and gas for nothing.

Bought five firearms with Turner's. I have never been disappointed of let down. I will continue to use them when the price is right.

I've bought the majority of my firearms from turners San Marcos and Temecula. I haven't had my current address on my license for a couple years now. I always bring in my car registration(with current address) as well. Never had an issue.

I've had the same problem. I moved three times in the space of 18 months and each time the DMV only sent the paper change of address. they wouldn't accept the license with the change of address for a firearms purchase. It sucks, but the best way around that is to just pay the DMV for a replacement license.
