So cheaper than dirt might have been "gouging", but they might also have just added their "standard" markup to a part or a gun that the *wholesaler* jacked the price on.

Your local gun shop can probably get any gun you want from *some* wholesaler somewhere at a wicked high price during a panic, but because they *know* the price is obscene, they wont advertise that price. Cheaper than dirt pulls so much product from so many warehouses, that manually "editing" jacked prices wouldnt be feasable (or profitable), or even advisable - if you have an "unobtanium 1" rifle & need a mag, would you rather see "not available", or "one available, at $xx" ?

Earlier this year, bitcoin mining was all the rage & many decent video cards were being snapped up for $100 or more above the prices of a few months before. Amazon would have a few come in @ $xx, and when those ran out, another (higher priced) supplier would go to the top of Amazon's list - buying at the wrong time could add a *ton* to the price, but no one calls Amazon "dirtbags"..

I had a heck of a time trying to get off of CTD's spam lists. Took 3-4 calls and a few months. Shady business practices beyond their no-CA sales and price gouging. Amazon might not be as gun-friendly, but at least they hold themselves to a higher standard.

I recall Turners selling out of stripped lower receivers and having about 10x the amount of customers on the Saturday & Sunday right after the shooting occurred (the next day, 12/15 and 12/16).

Fortunately, I had already purchased some lower receivers that were on sale for that week the weekend before. But when I went in to pick up a PPT gun on 12/15 and 12/16, I gave up after waiting 45 minutes on each day. Needless to say, every day after that was packed in Turners and the only time I could pickup my stuff was on weekdays at odd hours (like on a Tuesday at 10:30am when not many people were there).

Thats just it, they *don't* hold themselves to a "higher standard"- if Amazon's warehouse is out of "xyz part", the next lowest priced vendor pops up on Amazon's page. When excedrin was off the market, $10 bottles were selling for $150 on Amazon.

I posted a poll showing "how many days after the shooting did you buy one, or went to the gun store".

              ps: The poll is private.
I think it is a forgone conclusion that another shooting will happen - or the Dems will latch on to some other thing that has happened and run with that emotion.
I wouldn't wait until that happens to buy 2 more, just start buying them as soon as you can, knowing that they want to ban them, another shooting or not.

We saw about a 40% uptick in sales and requests in just over 24 hours. It continued to climb steadily for months.

Supply and demand...the foundation of capitalism.

Don't like the price, don't buy the weapon.

"Gouging" is related to raising the price on necessities to life (water, fuel, food, etc.) in times of scarcity...like an earthquake, following a hurricane, etc. Many states have laws against gouging.

People here claiming gouging on weapons usually are / were too ignorant to buy what the needed, guns or ammo, prior to obvious signs of price increases just around the corner...e.g., Obama's election, the original AWB, impending California legislation, etc. Then the pissy whining begins.

If you have no knowledge of what you're posting about, why post.

I had been researching the AR platform as well as the buy vs build and 80% route leading up to SH. I DROS'd a Spikes basic mid length and a stripped lower the day of the event. Building up that stripped lower throughout 2013 was a challenge. A few days later I tried to buy some ammo from Cabelas that ended up on BO until it was cancelled late in 2013.

I allowed myself to be gouged on some 556, $15 for box of 20. Also a few $20 p-mag rebuild kits. Other than that, patience has paid off and eventually you get what you need at a reasonable price.

Pertaining to AR lowers: I was told (face to face) by a manufacturer that aside from high demand, there was a perfect storm after Sandy Hook -

                          1) Panic buying
                          2) One of the major forges had a catastrophic fire that destroyed their operation
                          3) Another major forge had a major screw-up in that they had a whole production run with bubbles in their forgings that had to be scrapped

LOL value pack. I don't use AR personally. Although I did get an AK right about the time of that mass shooting. Price was jacked up just like the Russian AKs are now....
