    Gun Sales After Sandy Hook

Since I wasnt too big on AR15 back then (I am now), I would like to know how fast did they disappear after the shooting happen.

I already own one, however if another shoring occurs, I plan on buying 2 or more, since they might ban them this time. That's why I want to be prepared.

I posted a poll showing "how many days after the shooting did you buy one, or went to the gun store".

    ps: The poll is private.

Did you have a hard time finding one?

Such as brand names like Colt or S&W?

lots of people were price gouging, especially some people on here. i saw $600 ARs selling for over $2000 during the height of the panic. Even saw a SCAR 17 that sold for 5k

            fools, the lot of them.

I can happily say I did not participate in any of that nonsense.

Just two weeks before Sandy Hook I was in Vegas on a business trip and found my way to a range where I could shoot full auto. I had always practiced a few times a year to stay proficient in pistol but after that I started reading up on what other guns I might add to the safe. I happened to start looking right at the beginning and all the shops I looked in were sold out within 4-5 days. I did not jump on the hype and focused on revolvers for a while.

Five days before Sandy Hook I woke up and realized the Dens had a super-majority in the legislature. Same day I bought a safe and three days later (two days before SH) bought four lowers from Sac Black Rifle with the intent to build them for myself and my three adult sons (26, 23, and 21 yrs old). Had them all built by February and since then have purchased 2 more rifles (both .22s), four handguns and built a fifth AR for my daughter.

I recall going to Bass Pro Shops a few days after SH, they had a huge display full of Remington Golden Bullets, 525 ct for 26.99, I bought two boxes. I've not seen a display like that since.

Cheaper than dirt had mags for $95 each at one point. I will NEVER buy anything from that company EVER. Not even if they were giving stuff away for free. They are dirtbags.
I can't believe no one has put this one to bed yet - cheaper than dirt (and about a billion other online sellers) re-sell & drop-ship guns & parts from half a dozen large (independent) warehouses. Just like Amazon, the warehouse sets their price, cheaper than dirt adds a markup & their website shows a price. So cheaper than dirt might have been "gouging", but they might also have just added their "standard" markup to a part or a gun that the *wholesaler* jacked the price on.

Your local gun shop can probably get any gun you want from *some* wholesaler somewhere at a wicked high price during a panic, but because they *know* the price is obscene, they wont advertise that price. Cheaper than dirt pulls so much product from so many warehouses, that manually "editing" jacked prices wouldnt be feasable (or profitable), or even advisable - if you have an "unobtanium 1" rifle & need a mag, would you rather see "not available", or "one available, at $xx" ?

Earlier this year, bitcoin mining was all the rage & many decent video cards were being snapped up for $100 or more above the prices of a few months before. Amazon would have a few come in @ $xx, and when those ran out, another (higher priced) supplier would go to the top of Amazon's list - buying at the wrong time could add a *ton* to the price, but no one calls Amazon "dirtbags"..

Which is part of the reason we still have a shortage on .22, because instead of understanding market forces we just boycott. Which helps no one.
