I haven't had an issue, though I do everything completely above board so if it is a "sting" they are wasting their time and my tax money, which is a bit annoying.

I have done one transfer that could have been cash and carry(buying an M1 garand that was a C&R) but this state makes me paranoid so I went through the FFL and 10 day wait anyway. I consider it worth the $35 for my piece of mind.

      Never deviate from a FFL.
      Always ship to a FFL.

I have had a few first post buy.

Buy I have bailed on 2 that wanted cash and carry

        Interesting subject !
I have a scope for sale in the marketplace.
I get a pm from someone, saying I'll take it if you still have it.
I pm them back with my phone # and ask them to call me.
4 days now, no phone call or pm.

Early last year or so I saw a 5.7 in the for sale section here. I PM'd the seller and he sent me his phone number. I called him,he was out of Sactramento (I'm in SoCal) and he just moved from Texas where the gun was purchased. He wanted me to paypal or mail a check and he would ship the firearm to my house. Ofcourse I declined and said to ship it to an FFL. He started telling me he has done this a few times to people in SoCal. I just declined and went on with life. Made me really wonder if it was a DOJ sting to see if they could get people to take the deal though.

I posted about renting milling equipment to finish an 80% lower around the time it was getting murky and a few months after that post I get a pm from someone wanting to rent me mill time, 17 posts to their name. They must of been searching old post to see if anyone would take the bait. It looked very stingish to me. Who would spend the time to search that and then send individualized PM's to people from post months ago. Doesn't seem like a profitable business strategy or use of time. I just simply replied "Thank you but I'm no longer confident that process is legal. If it is clarified to be legal in the future I'll get back to you." I'm glad I didn't get into the 80% game with rented equipment.

That being said, stay legal and you don't have anything to worry about. Stings are common tactics in all forms of law enforcement.

Case in point, I'm selling a shotgun, I was PM about a potential sale and noticed the member or guess had no posts, could that be a red flag? Has anyone had offers like this? Obviously I was going to do a legal transfer, but I just a had a funny feeling.

                Thanks
For me, having no posts is not necessarily a red flag. It will depend on how the other party conducts themselves during the transaction process.

I once had someone here inquire about a firearm I was selling and wanted to know if cared wether or not we went through an FFL. I told him to F off and reported him to the Head Janitor(Kestryll).

I believe whole heartedly there are stings on here, or that at least they are tried. I made mention of some legally owned standard capacity pistol mags I had for a firearm that I no longer own. I had several contact me to buy them to which i turned down all. One guy said he just wanted them as "parts kits" (after the law passed), I told him since he was close I would me him and do a one for one trade, his broken parts for my good parts. That way its all legal and i would give him the parts for free. Never heard from him again once he realised I wouldnt sell him a complete mag.

I must say, I've had very good luck when it comes to dealing with Calguns members---everything above board---things that needed to go thru a FFL always went thru an FFL---no exceptions on that---people seemed like good people and nobody tried to pull any shiit.
If fact, several people could become friends...

Back in the cash n carry days I was selling a mosin and a 10/22. I stated in my ad the mosin could be c&c, and I would meet at certain FFLs to PPT the Ruger. I had one guy, new member with few posts, pressing me pretty hard to cash n carry both. I refused each time he offered, and strangely he wasn't interested in buying only the mosin.

Ive sold several items in the market place via this method, they worked out flawlessly.

I was looking for a gun that is not on the roster so it isn't readily available in my area. A guy sent me a pm offering what I was looking for but it was in SoCal (I'm in NorCal) so I said I wasn't interested because I didn't want to have to make two drives that far. He responded I could just do one trip (implying cash and carry). I forwarded the pm to the mods. All my other transactions with Calgunners have been straight forward; meet at the FFL and do the deal.
