Trust your gut!Does anyone think there are sting operations on CALGUNS firearms for sale ?
Case in point, I'm selling a shotgun, I was PM about a potential sale and noticed the member or guess had no posts, could that be a red flag? Has anyone had offers like this? Obviously I was going to do a legal transfer, but I just a had a funny feeling.
Thanks"I think, therefore some people make me laugh"Comment

I only came to calguns for the marketplace. I think I had three post when I bought a gun from a guy here and all of those posts were in my wtb thread. As suggested a phone call will straighten things out and only meet at an ffl.
I doubt it's some sort of sting though. I thought it was common knowledge law enforcement browses calguns?Comment

Remember ot post count is disabled too so that could be another reason for low post count or nonexisting post count...

That's suspicious all right. No doubt you heard from the ATF's Special Assault Scope Branch, on a fishing expedition.Interesting subject !
I have a scope for sale in the marketplace.
I get a pm from someone, saying I'll take it if you still have it.
I pm them back with my phone # and ask them to call me.
4 days now, no phone call or pm.
This persons profile says they joined 2013, no posts, no threads started, no information.
Very suspiciousOriginally posted by cockedandglockedGetting called a DOJ shill has become a rite of passage around here. I've certainly been called that more than once - I've even seen Kes get called that. I haven't seen Red-O get called that yet, which is very suspicious to me, and means he's probably a DOJ shill.Comment

I've sold several items to members with no post count. Some are just here for the marketplace.
No doubt kooks, antis, law enforcement all monitor and may well try and buy stuff. Stay legal and all will be well. No hobby is worth going to jail over.^^ Said by some lunatic on the internetComment

Just follow the law and do any PPT's transfers at an FFL.
Yes DOJ/ATF does lurk here.

Post count means nothing There are many lurkers who just watch the for sale boards for bargains. Or the fellow could be brand new to CalGunsDoes anyone think there are sting operations on CALGUNS firearms for sale ?

All in all I've had great success here buying and selling. Like many others I do read a great deal but don't post much myself.
I have had a couple of bad transactions and one that worried me. The two bad ones I've learned from, both wishy washy buyers, one who backed out at the dealers after asking for a great many specific pics before agreeing to meet. Then field stripped the pistol and took along time looking only to tell me he wanted one with a slide marked West Germany! (Sig). He hadn't noticed that in all the photos he asked for? Another guy got me to Cerritos and then low balled me at the FFL. I walked both times.
The scary transaction was at Pasadena Turners. The buyer knew a lot about guns but not a great deal about transfers or the paperwork. Did not speak English well and kept playing with his phone during the transaction. I became concerned he was photographing my personal paperwork (on the counter) and after we were done, I went back to the store. I spoke to the manager and asked him right then to make a note of the transaction and the buyer. I was concerned about a burglary in the coming weeks or identity theft. Never had any trouble but it was a strange transaction.
I always include my phone number on PM's when buying and selling and am happy to talk with buyers or sellers but I notice most others don't seem too. I've wondered if people think they have a better advantage price wise through email and text.Comment
