    PPT @ Turners

Not sure if this should be in general gun discussion, mod's please move if necessary.

So I'm meeting someone to do a PPT trade @ turners this weekend.. yes I know and have read all the nightmares about turners. I've never done it myself, so crossing my fingers, that all goes well. Just a few questions:

    - Has anyone ever done PPT on a gun that was off roster there? Reason I ask is the gun I'm transferring, has a giant sticker on the side that says not legal for sale in California, and I know how inconsistent turners employees knowledge can be.

    - Do they also understand that CCW covers HSC requirement, and all ID and reseidence verification? (this is what I use the last 2 times I bought guns no problem @ OC armory and OC firearms)

-Do they make you buy a lock? or will they accept one of those handwritten "bill of sales" that most FFLs accept?

I will call and ask the same questions, but those of you with experience at turners understand the inconsistency of knowledge and fud from the various employees there.. I'll probably just try to make sure the most knowledgable person handles the transaction.

    Thanks in advance everyone
    Have a good day!

Those of us with experience at Calguns understand the inconsistency of knowledge and fud from the various posters here. (sometimes including me)

If they tell you they can't do the PPT because it's off roster, thank them, hang up and call back later and speak to someone else.

The buyer, not you, needs to DROS and therefore needs ID, and HSC etc., unless the transaction falls through and it needs to be returned to you. Again, if they give you the "wrong" answer, hang up and call back later.

They will likely make you buy a lock unless you have a store receipt dated within 30 days, not some hand scratched napkin. If you make up a nice one and print it out, maybe. Just make sure it's an approved lock.

As of January 1, 2002, no firearm may be sold, transferred, or manufactured within California unless that firearm is accompanied by a DOJ-approved firearms safety device (California Penal Code section 23620, et seq).

If you get some that gives you the "right" answers, get his/her name. Make sure you PPT while they are there.

Tuner's is usually swamped on the weekends so enjoy spending an hour or two trying to get the PPT done. You'll find an inconsistent experience with them so it is possible that they may have issue with a not for sale in California sticker on the case. I'm unsure of the CCW verification but they typically follow a by the book procedure and will want safe handling demonstration and two forms of identity. They will not accept hand written receipts for gun locks and you'll probably be forced to buy one of their's even if you have the OEM lock.

I did a PPT at Turners with another Calgunner for a M&P22 that was pulled off the roster earlier this year and had no issues.

Which Turner's would you be doing the PPT trade at?

signal hill, im wary of the location because the last time I was there buying a long gun, the dumbass tried to make me provide two forms of residence/id. I tried to tell him that he was wrong. He appeared to be the resident "gun guy" because while he was helping me, he kept butting into other reps/customers conversations and telling them "oh x gun is better because I have experience with it." Hopefully he doesn't work there anymore.

I'm going to try to be there when they open, so we're the first helped. I totally understand how busy they get on weekends. Or any gun store actually.. its crazy.

It does not matter if it is legal in California or not for a PPT.
I would recommend that the box with large sticker saying not legal in California not make it into the store. Even though it does not make a difference, all you need is some clerk to think it does.

good point. I would like to have that sticker though just so I can feel like im sticking it to the man, but probably don't want to create any unnecessary room for FUD. I can totally see them freaking out about it, and trying to falsely site "store policy" due to irrational fear.

Actually, the Signal Hill location is not too bad, as Turner's go. If I were you, I would try to avoid Turner's at all cost, especially on the weekends. Carson Pawn is only a little farther north from Turner's Signal Hill, and the PPTs I've done there have been at most 20 minutes.

                    Good luck!

Signal hill is not too bad.. I have good experience there.. Try going on a week day or drive 15 min on SB 405 and do it in riflegear or OC firearms..

Turners is a nightmare. It's the culture. It's deliberate, make PPT's as painful as possible.

Riflegear is better, but due to their popularity the lines are actually worse there than turners, but once you get to a clerk you are looking at 10 minutes tops.

Pawn shops are a good bet too.

Turners really should understand by extending the ppt process to 45 minutes they are hurting sales. But some things will never change.
I love America for the rights and freedoms we used to have.

My first PPT was also at Turners. After waiting 1.5 hour for our turn, we decided just to go to Alamo Pawn down the street and were done in 15 minutes, which is somewhat slow for them.

I would consider slowly removing my nuts with a disc sander before I'd do a PPT at Turner's.

                              Find any place else.
