Ever get burned on a PPT?

In the past week I've started PPTs on a couple guns. In both cases we did paperwork before I paid. In neither case did I know the seller.

I paid both of them, but has anyone here ever gotten screwed doing that? I'm not sure what could be done if someone started the transfer and then refused to pay.

Always collect money before you sign.

I get paid after the buyer checks out the gun then we enter the store or shop.

Would you sign a pink slip and hand over the keys before you were paid?

I was the buyer in both cases, so I guess I look trustworthy enough. I wouldn't be comfortable doing it the way it happened if I was the seller.

I always insist the person check out the gun inside the shop prior to collecting the money then initiating the paperwork.
If you don't know the person, never ever meet them or let them inspect a firearm outside of the FFL. Good way to find yourself facing a person who intends on ripping you off. Always meet them inside.

not really, once did a PPT (some one on this site) and then went to the range and the gun was not functioning correctly. The seller never mentioned this problem but I am positive thats why he sold it.

I had a friend file a piece inside the trigger group and it fixed the problem. I felt a little ripped off cause the seller was not honest about the gun.

Overall not too bad because I had it taken care of but still kinda butthurt.

Nope. We don't even enter the store until the money transfers hands in the parking lot. Buying or selling.

I usually check their iTrader and act accordingly.
People I've talked to for a couple days before the ppt I usually are more trustworthy.

In both cases I arrived after the seller (but on time), and the seller was already inside - but in neither case was I asked for money before we left the store after finishing paperwork. I wouldn't have been opposed to paying first, but I wasn't asked to.

Oh, and while one of the sellers is on here I contacted both of them through BARF (Bay Area Riders Forum).

I let them inspect the weapon (or I inspect the weapon) prior to entering store. No cash no sale.

I've never sold but i usually pay after the paper work has started. i would gladly pay after inspection before paper work had started but no one has asked me to. I think my itrader and demeanor have a lot to do with it though.

That is how I've always done it. Never really thought about it...the sellers usually just wanted to get paid afterwards for whatever reasons. There was one time where I did a PPT at turners. They pulled out the paperwork and right before the seller could sign they asked us both to step outside and complete the transaction. As soon as we walked in, he was asked to sign.

                              Worth repeating ....

                              This isn't complicated.

                              1. You agree to buy my Glock.
                              2. We decide to meet at OC Armory, because Turners Blows.
                              3. We already have each other's cell number. You text me that you're
                              In the parking lot.
                              4. Exiting our cars, we shake hands and walk to my Trunk.
                              5. I open the trunk, you fondle and inspect the Glock. Below the line of sight of others.
                              6. You like it.
                              7. You hand over the CASH to me.
                              8. I lift the weapon out of the trunk and we walk into OC Armory.
                              9. I place the Glock box on the corner counter; Mike inspects it to make sure it's unloaded.
                              10. We both hand over our papers. You, your CDL and Car Registration, and HSC card. Me, my DL only. We fill out papers. We thumb print.
They make copies, they ask both of us questions.
                              11. Done deal, you pay $35 bucks.
                              12. Go home. Come back in 10 as pointed out in your Receipt by Mike
                              13. Total time 14 minutes. You take a bad cell photo of Glock to post on Cal Guns.
                              14. The pilgrims over at Turners are still looking at their pulled number and realize 14 people are ahead of them.
                              15. You post a positive itrader rating, I do the same for you.
