Both indoor ranges I go to say loading mags at the back table is fine, as long as the guns stay at the line. Last time I was there the family of idiots next to me uncased everything they had and were busily loading 3 revolvers at the back table. The first I knew of it was when the range owner came in and hollered at them. Kind of wrecked my whole trip, as I was trying to keep an eye on them all the time.

At every range I have been to, cease fire means that and step away from everything.
      RO's are a paranoid bunch nowadays....and I can't say I blame them.

The 3 outdoor ranges I've been to in the Bay Area are fine with it.

I always take my mags and ammo to the bench and load up while waiting on the all clear.
Guns are on the bench, properly unloaded and facing down range per safety rules, of course.

I don't even bother asking because honestly it never occurred to me in my 20 years of shooting.
The rule is guns on the bench. Not everything on the bench. I'd be very surprised if a range doesn't allow that.

Depends on the range so ask if your somewhere new. The Gun Range in Sac requires mags to be loaded at bench.

Usually at ranges it's frowned upon.

I personally as long as there is no muzzle back there or a gun in anther hand it's fine. Just don't be an idiot about it.

But ranges have to account for all the dumb a**es who share this hobby with us.

outdoor ranges its the norm. Your ammo boxes are usually on the back bench.

Depends on the range and the RO. Best answer when it comes to any safety or firearms handling rules and regulations is to ask the RO. They would rather answer your question than call ceasefire and throw you out.

It's ok at Sac Valley Shooting Center. No handling of firearms behind the line and uncase/re case all firearms on the firing point only, but refilling magazines behind the line is fine.
Firearms brought to the range uncased need to be muzzle up and actions open until you get to the firing point.

At the indoor range I frequent they don't allow it because they still get idiots who load the mags at the back wall, load the gun, turn around and sweep the line with the loaded gun and the step forward to the firing line.

Of course they have signage of the rules plastered all over the walls and large eye level warnings on the back wall "do not load mags here" and a few people still don't pay attention.

I've been to a lot of ranges in CA and a few in other states and I've never been to one that did not allow it including every indoor range I've been to.

Well, that sounds to me like they have a problem with people having loaded guns behind the line, not loaded magazines.

I suppose at Bizarro Gun Range it makes sense to ban mag loading because people are loading their guns back there too.

I load mags during cease fire all the time, never had a problem.

I always do, when not shooting I always try to stand as far away back from the firing, reduces chance of being hit by a ND.
